  1. Both hotel and island are 5 star, granted 5 stars don't come cheap. As far as the weather in the USVI, if you don't like like it wait 5 minutes, it will change, most rain is short lived.

  2. We stayed at the Westin Resort on St John. It's a nice expensive resort.  The beach is man made and the water is not as clear as other beaches/water on St John. That was a big disappointment for us. But we rented a jeep and adventured to the other 38 beaches on the island.

Love the island of St John. Can't say enough good things about it.

We rent a villa/house on St John when we go to the island. You can check this link too for rentals.

You ask about storms in October, weather is unpredictable. It is still hurricane season (June 1 to Nov 30th) If you go, be sure to take travel insurance that covers weather as a back up plan.

    Good Luck and enjoy)

  3. Outstanding!  Great beach.  Great rooms.  VERY pricey.  St. John is the most well preserved of the 3 US Virigin islands.  And, it has the best beaches.  But, it is the most expensive by far.  When I go to the islands I rent a villa on the North Side of St. Thomas through McLaughlin Anderson and ferry back and forth to St. John for day trips.  Short, inexpensive trip.

  4. We drove to St. John and my wife tells me the last ferry back to St. Thomas is at 11:00. When we get back to Cruz Bay we find out that it's the last "passenger ferry" at 11:00 and the barge won't be back until the morning. So it's late at night, with no place to stay, we end up at the Westin. My wife asks them what kind of deals they had on rooms and finds out that if we tour their bungalos (time-share, vacation club, or something) we could get a discount rate on a room. Turned out to be $120 for the night. It was awesome. The Westin is fabulous and St. John is where I want to live when I retire.

Hurricane season starts in the fall so that is always a consideration. Most likely the weather will be nice although there may be leftovers from the storm that hit before you arrived (silty water in the ocean, storm damage to buildings, etc.)
