Hi. I've recently been thinking about sponsoring a child. Has anyone got any reccomendations on what country it should be in? If so, does anyone any good charities to do it through? Plus, does anyone know how much money-ish it would take per month...week...year etc. Also, any tips or knowledge from people sponsoring a child in any location would be appreciated.

  1. We sponsor children with Compassion International. They are really great, and our oldest son has even gone to Asia to meet the children. We've had as many as six at one time*, and you are asked to write to your child, and occasionally, if you wish, you can send extra financial help. I'm not talking big money here, just gifts of up to $20-$25, for birthday or holiday. Right now all of our children are in India and Indonesia, but you can request a country or allow Compassion to pick a child of greatest need. Most people want to sponsor younger children, so there are many older ones waiting to be sponsored. It's a wonderful way to help a child get a good start in life. And they really deserve it and tell you of their appreciation. Compassion International can be found on your computer. I believe the cost is $32 per month. They generally run from $25 or so and up. The money is the best spent money you will ever donate. It changes lives!  And not just one...Entire families and communities.

*That's three families. We have one sponsored child now, our son has three and our daughter has one. That's five, right? One just graduated from college and he no longer needs to be sponsored. He was ours.

  2. Christian Children's fund is pretty good, I sponsored a child with them for several years but had to stop due to finacial difficulties.  I chose to sponsor a child in south america as there are a lot of poor people there.

  3. There's a charity called 'Plan UK' ,though i'm sure there must be an American equivalent, which is a wonderful charity. It's like $28 a month and you can choose either boy/girl from africa/carribean/latin america/asia. You also get to write to your sponser child which is just a fantastic experience, very rewarding.
