I recently inherited a brand new home on the coast of Istron (according to my research it's 10 km from Agios Nikolas and opposite of Elounda the home is in the Acidalia Istron Estates)

I have never been to Greece, Crete or in fact anywhere near them. Anything anyone could tell me about these areas would be very helpful (shops, nightlife, weather, really anything as I am quite clueless)

  2. I love the Greek islands but I've never been to Crete,I believe Istron is a very low key resort,it has three magnificent beaches including the famous Golden Beach, along with a dozen Tavernas, half a dozen Bars, Snack Bars and Cafes (including an Internet Cafe), Souvenir shops and Mini markets. The weather from May to October is beautiful and cool with some rain  the other months.

  3. Greece is a truly beautiful place with every island being different. My partner and I have just returned from Istron where we are planning to buy a plot of land and build a small house.  It is approx 10km from Aghios Nikolaos which is a bustling tourist resort with many bars, tavernas and nightlife.  Istron is quieter with several sandy beaches each with a 'Kantina' providing drinks and snacks.  It is about 1&1/4 hours drive from Heraklion arport which is now served directly by Easyjet throughout the summer. There are several tavernas and many bars both English and Greek speaking with free playstation use for the kids (if you have any). There are small local supermarkets in the village but if you need to shop big there is a large LIDL on the outskirts of Aghios. Istron is also on a bus route to Aghios and to Sitia and Ierapetra in the opposite direction. It can be noisy on the main road but there are plans to build a bypass round the back of the village of Kalo Chorio.  The weather is fantastic; we had temperatures in the very high 30s every day so air conitioning is a must!  We were on Crete for 3 weeks and it didn't rain once.  If you are looking for accommodation to visit your inheritance I can recommend apartments at Annys Sun & Sea apartments.  Their website is www.sea-sun.gr.  The owner does not speak a lot of English but his staff do.  Everyone there is so friendly and helpful and it is frequented by expats who use his pool for the price of a drink at the bar. There are hotels there as well; the Istron Bay hotel an A-class on the edge of the village and the Elpida which is a two star but more central.  I hope you make a visit to this area and see it for yourself.
