  1. The Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET) is a private non-profit corporation, established in 1974, and officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education since 1978.  The USDE posts a listing of the accrediting agencies it recognizes as "reliable authorities concerning the quality of education and training offered by institutions of higher education or higher education programs they accredit."  The USDE recognition is periodically re-evaluated and in December 2007, ACCET's petition before the National Advisory on Institutional Quality and Integrity resulted in five-year grant of continued recognition by the Secretary of Education, the maximum grant period allowed.  In addition, ACCET is the only such agency to attain the international recognition of ISO 9001:2000 certification as a quality management system in the field of accreditation.  ACCET accredits approximately 650 postsecondary institutions and a directory of those institutions can be found at www.accet.org.
