  1. I lived in Italy for two years, it was ten years ago though. The people there are very generous and open to foreigners, especially with food and their time. They will help you with the language and are delighted if you try to speak Italian. I was on a train once and there was a mother and her young daughter and a soldier in the carriage ( the have national c onscription still). The mother opened a picnic basket and without asking plated up a lunch for us all. The transpoortation is good, with buses and trains and trams, people walk a lot. They still have food markets in the town square and siestas in the afternoon. They tend to go home for lunch and a sleep ant then return to work. They have coffee bars on every corner, some are open air. The jewelry stores are to die for. Entertainment is really centered round the family and family participation. I went to the American School in Turin which was multi cultural. I also travelled to Florence and Senegalia, Venice and Rome. It is a great experience, safe for the main part. I would have no hesitation on goinng back there for a vacation or even to live in retirement. Tradition and architecture-the ancient building give the community a stability that is missing in the US.

  2. Hi I'm Italian, I'm 27, can speak a little English, so I hope I can help you!! I'm your Italian guide!

    About Education here in Italy..

We have compulsory education, from 6 years old until 14. "Elementare"is from 6 to 10, then we have "Media" from 11 to 14. Then we can choose from many High Schools (that last 5 years), for example we have "Liceo", that can be Classical, Artistic, Linguistic, or Scientific. But, if you prefer technical subjects, you can go to "Istituto Tecnico", that can be Commercial or Industrial. Then, you can go to University: in three years you get a degree of first level ("laurea di 1°livello"), and if you make 2 other years of university, you got specialistic degree (laurea specialistica).

    About entertainment:

People from 14 to 18 years old go to discotheques especially on sunday afternoon, and they mostly like House Music and Commercial Music. Some other like heavy metal, but there are not many disco with rock music.

People from 18 / 25, they go to the disco especially on Saturday night, they mostly listen to house music and RnB, and some of them go to University parties on Wednesday nights. People from 25 / 40, they go to disco and clubs especially on Friday night and Sunday night, they mostly listen and dance Commercial music, the eighties, salsa, merengue.

Two very trendy discos (many v.i.p.s)are Pineta (In the town Milano Marittima) and Hollywood (in Milan)

Many people from about 20 years old and more, like drinking red wine, and at 6 p.m. go to aperitivo with friends or colleagues, after work.

Dinner is about at 8 p.m., we especially go to Pizza restaurant when there are lots of friends, while to normal Restaurants (where we eat very good Pasta, Meat - Bistecca is good, or Fish -especialy on seaside resorts- with Special persons. There are lots of chinese restaurants, and some indian, mexican, brasilian, spanish restaurants.

If you go on holiday, the most trendy places here in Italy are: Sardinia (very beautiful sea, many discos, many V.i.p.s, but a bit expensive!), then Sicily (very hot and beautiful boys, sea, and also historical places), Rimini and Riccione (two towns full of discotheques, parties and young people).

If you go with your boyfriend, Venice and Siena are very romantic

I also like the romantic Tuscany (especially Florence, Siena)

Rome is very very beautiful, you should visit it!!
