  1. I was a broker there for 2 years.

    It is a very conservative investment firm.

    They recommend long term investing.

    They give sound advice.

    I still have my mutual fund accounts there.

    They do tend to charge fees when they aren't necessary" IRA's " it doesn't cost $40 a year to do the accounting on these yet they charge that and more.

    If this is your first time investing it is a Great place to start.

    And do it with mutual funds, American Funds & Hartford have worked for me.

  2. Edward Jones is the perfect place for an investor looking for honest, conservative finacial help.  I have sent good friends and relatives there & all are thrilled.  They are the largest seller in the USA of the American Funds (the top rated "loaded" funds in the US).

    The $40 fee they charge is not any reason to make a decision against this terrific company for retirement accounts.

    If you can take some time & read a few books... you can most likely save yourself 10's of thousands of dollars (over a lifetime) by not using any financial advisor.

    There are many Mutual Fund companies as good as the American Funds that can be purchsed without a sales charge. All you need to do is put in a little effort.

    I don't pay a penny for good Mutual Funds.  I refuse to pay $575 for every $10,000 I invest.

    Start with;

    Mutual Funds For Dummy's

    This and other good books may show you it's fairly easy to pick the right funds on your own. The most important part of the process is your "asset allocation".

    Don't get me wrong.. You'd be hard pressed to find a better fee based broker than Edward Jones. Just don't sell yourself short by assuming you can't do this.

  3. Edward Jones is a St. Louis based full service brokerage house, with offices all over the country, whose target market is non-active traders who are seeking to build long-term wealth.  Their brokers tend to recommend exclusively large cap, dividend paying, conservative stocks that have been trading on major exchanges for several years.  Edward Jones is a brokerage house and not an investment bank, therefore their target market is the main street investor--I am not aware of a single Ed Jones brokerage house in NYC's financial district.
