Any information on Joseph William Taylor, deceased?

I am looking for family information on Joseph William Taylor of Kentucky. He was probably born in the late 1800's. He married and divorced Ethelene Gillespie and they had a son, Joseph Taylor, adopted by Ethelene's second husband. Lived as Joseph Roberson in Michigan. He is my grandfather and I'd like to trace his ancestry.

In 1920, Ethelene Taylor, age 23, divorced, lives with her parents in Fayette co, KY.  Son Joe Henry Taylor is shown as age 5.  By 1930, she married Smith Roberson and lives in Michigan where son is shown as Joe Roberson, adopted son.

There is a Joseph Taylor, age 27, laborer, single who also is in the same county in 1920.. a good candidate, but not proof. He does not live with his family.

Joseph W Taylor, age 83, died in Fayette co, Ky on 25 July 1980.  That would make his birth 1897, which is stronger odds.  I did locate a Joseph Taylor with mother Iad (?) in the same co in 1910.

You still need to verify the marriage and divorce, which assuming it did happen (they all don't, to be honest), it should be in Fayette.   I can send the census images to you, but you need to drop a note through my profile.

I looked for Joseph in Boyd County.

There are no Joseph Taylors living in Boyd County in any census from 1790 to 1930.

There are two William Taylors here in 1910, one b. 1846, one b. 1837, both married. There are none there in 1920.

Without a birth year for Joseph, given how common the surname Taylor is, you'll never be sure if the one you find is him or not.

He was quick - Ethelene was a child of 13 in 1910, pregnant by the time she was 16, divorced before 1920. Someone like that will be hard to trace. You might write for the full birth certificate. It might have his age at the time, which would be a start.

(Since you didn't say what your Grandfather's middle name was, these from www.findagrave.com are by guess and by golly as to dates born. I'm going by Etheleen's birth year of 1896 to figure Joseph's. If she was 20 or thereabouts when she married the first time to Joseph W, that would figure to 1916. You just said your grandfather "grew up" in Michigan, so he could lived elsewhere as he got older):
