ok, i want to go to university to study abroad im thinking perhaps Canada, New Zealand, Australia or similar. I currently live in the UK and was wondering if anyone could give me any information or guidance with this. Any other suggestions for countries are very welcome, and was wondering is it even affordable to study abroad?? Thanks a lot

  1. Try to visit  this website which I just came across, a lot of useful information on study abroad:

  2. the frist thing you need to do is find out whether the qualifications in the country you want to study in are recognized in the country you want to live in after you graduate. So if you've got an Australian degree but want to live and work in Britain you need to find out if that is possible (it is quite common to have problems getting foreign degrees recognized).

Then if you study abroad you usually need to be able to afford it yourself. It is rare for a foreign citizen to get a loan, let alone a student loan, in another country and if it is overseas the university fees might be higher (for UK universities the fees for UK and EU nationals are ca. £3000 per year. for overseas students from the USA or China it would cost £10.000 per year). If you are not British, you cannot get a student loan in the UK (which is fair enough) and i would be surprised if that would be different in other countries.

while there might be some scholarships available, they are rare and sometimes restricted to the nationals of the specific country. So in most cases it would be you having to pay for everything, tuition fees, accomodation, living and travel expenses (would you want to come home fro christmas, etc.) and that can get very expensive very quickly. if you or your family can afford it, then it would be great, but most people can hardly afford to support their kids through university in their own country, which tends to be cheaper.

you could always aim to study abroad for a year of your course (there are certain programs which help with tuition fees) but it can depend on the university you are going to.

I don't want to put you off from studying abroad, (it's what I have done and never regretted it), but it's not as easy as it might seem.

    good luck!
