Any kind of way to waterproof cardboard/paper/mache???

Question

I built something out of cardboard,paper, and papermache. I want to waterproof it. Is there a clear coat I can use on it or something? Some kind of paint might work, but I'd prefer something clear to put over my own paintjob.

You could cover it with a coat of melted wax.

Hi I think you can buy clear Lacquer  . which you can spray on to your something. try art supply shop. or local craft  hobbies shop.

Waterbased Polyurethane. The gloss finish will be shiney, and the flat won't. It will take a while for it to completely dry. It will dry quick to the touch, but it takes a long time to dry if you aren't able to put it in the sun...:) Plus it is easy clean up, just soap and water, and there isn't a smell. Having used it with newspaper, please note that it does give it an aged look...:)

Hi what you need is a clear varnish, the kind you paint onto wood. You can get these at any DIY store or craft shop.

Hey yo.  There are several ways to go about this with some being more comfortable than others:

-Waterproof your shirt, and then stick your cardboard critter or whatever up your shirt.  

-Hug your cardboard creation very, very tightly making sure to cover it all up, and then -- and only then -- jump into a pool or rancid mud puddle.

-Wrap it up in your raincoat and some duct tape.

-If you don't have a raincoat, destroy an umbrella and use that & the duct tape instead.

-If you don't have an umbrella or raincoat and are unwilling to spend your time in the pool attached to your cardboard thing, make your younger sister hug it and duct tape her to it.  If she's not enough to cover it (although I'm sure she is), you can always patch it up by duct taping one of her silly cats to it wherever she's not covering it.

-Or I guess you can use some sort of clear paint too.  But where's the fun in that?
