Any know about inboard motors with heat exchangers and how they work?

i have a boat wih a chevy 305 and omc 185 with a heat exchanger i have had outboard motors my motor and boat have 869 hours on them looks and runs like new when should i change oil and how does my heat exchanger work and blower i tried toask boat dealers but all they were wanting was to sale me a new boat and trade mine in

  1. Blower should be on a switch...simple 12v circuit...it evacuates gas fumes before you fire your inboard.

    Heat exchanger is part of a closed glycol(antifreeze) system. The antifreeze in your block goes through small tubes which have fresh sea water washing around them to cool the antifreeze.


  2. Can you get the exchanger out? It may need cleaning. The heat is exchanges by pipes passing close together with fresh water.

  3. All a heat exchanger does is take the heat from the engine and transfer it to the water around your boat.  It is basically the same as the radiator in your car except instead of being cooled by the air it uses the sea water to do the cooling.  There should be sacrificial anodes, or zincs, that will require replacing periodically on the raw water side of the cooler.  You should change your oil around every 500 operating hours or at least once per season if you do not use your engine that much.  I'm not exactly what your question is regarding the blower, so perhaps you can clarify.
