I going to travel, somehow, from madid to barcelona next month. bus is easy but boring, car offers more freedom but i would really like to go on 2 wheels. ive found companies offering huge touring bikes and companies offering little beach mopeds. do you know if i can hire a 2 wheeled machine that will get me there, and that i can pick up in madrid and drop off in Barca?

all help and advice appreciated!

cheers

Don´t know if you can pick up in Madrid and drop off in Barcelona but you can contact them and ask - you may be able to as you can hire from Malaga, Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, Santiago de Compostela and Seville.

  2. Sorry but I've lived in Spain 17 years and never known any company do this. Be logical about it, they would have to take the full amount of the bike off your creditcard (in case you were out to steal it) then they would have to pay someone to go and get it back from Barca as it would have to be returned to the office in Madrid at some point. There are few that even do this  with cars and it's usually expensive too. I understand why you want to feel the freedom and totally agree it would be more exciting. Can't you bring one from the UK (if that is where you are)

  3. Hertz rentacar also rent bikes (BMWs) and list hire centers in Madrid and Barcelona. Unfortunately you cannot reserve online, you have to call or e-mail.

Do a web search for Hertz motos and you'll find the contact details.

  4. Sorry to rain on your parade, but I don't know of any companies offering motorbike (or scooter) hire from Madrid - Barcelona or vice versa. The drop off charges are usually too much for it to be worthwhile and insurance premiums for a bike vs a car are sky high (Spain is notorious for road deaths, despite the quality of the motorways - due to the many tolls along the way).

Don't want to put you off, and i can totally understand your reasoning, but i'm afraid I can't think of any!! I suppose you could try for a cheap flight (fair few companies from Madrid to BCN) and then hire a scooter at each end to get it out of your system?!

    Good luck!!
