Ok, I need a NEW laptop, but my budget is kind of limit since I'm still in college. In Office depot they have this deal for the Toshiba m305d-4831. It seems like a good laptop it has 4 gb ram, web cam, 14.1", and even a cute design on it. BUT it also has amd turion x2 64 - but I heard it's extremely slow compared to intel (is that true?) anyways, does this laptop sound good to you guys? would you recommend it? It's 600 bucks btw. thanks in advanced

  1. The Turion is good enough for doing everyday things. Only the tech enthusiasts stress over Intel or AMD when they overclock. Others just jump on the "Intel is better" train.

Most people barely use 10% of a CPU, let alone push past a single core. They don't know what's fast or not.

  2. No, do not get this laptop.

Toshiba laptops are very bad. They are made of such cheap parts that they normally break soon after buying. I would never recommend a Toshiba laptop to anyone.

AMD processors are also not as good as as Intel ones for 2 reasons.

    1. They work a bit slower

    2. They heat up faster which means your laptop will overheat easier.

I recommend you to buy a Dell or HP.

Below is a link for a good $599 deal on a Dell laptop at Future Shop.

  3. No no no... The amd processors are very good (unless you get a bad one) and are certainly not slower, thought they havve a more liomited selection, they're great. 4 gb of ram? heck id buy it if was missing a screen for 4gb of ram. sounds like a good machine, make sure its got somem hard drive space on it (like at least 150 gb) and if you dont buy a Toshiba, get a refurbished compaq or hp, refurbished meaning that there was a bad part in it, and it was replaced. sounds like you scored on the Toshiba though. I'd take it if i were you.

    Good luck!

PS  - ive got an AMD turion x2 processor, and i can run crysis quite quickly, as well as some programs at the same time at optimal speeds.

  4. AMD Turion is good enough. Have no worries. Go for it. But incase u need alternatives do let us know ur budget so that we can suggest some other laptop
