Any last minute tips for tryouts tomorrow?

Okay so I'm trying out for varsity volleyball (9th grade in junior high, which means freshmen are the oldest, thus it is called varsity) tomorrow.

I'm 5 foot 6.5, so I'm kind of average-short for a vball player at my school.

I can do all of the basics - good overhand serve (very little spin, like a knuckleball), I can set forwards and back, I can pass with control, I can spike sort of well but not wonderfully, and I can slide oh and I can block.

I am bringing:

- water

- kneepads

- medical tape just in case

- cell phone but I'll make sure it's on silent

- athletic card

And I'm wearing short soffe shorts w/ spandex underneath, a t-shirt, and black knee socks with black knee pads and tennis shoes (I don't have vball ones, but will get some if I make the team.)

I'm the type of kid who will throw myself on the floor if it means getting a ball, and I have a loud voice for calling it.

I'm also encouraging to my teammates, not cocky, and I'm pretty coachable.

What else do coaches like to see?

  1. Be vocal.

Call the ball if you are going to pass it.

Call for your set when the setter is getting the ball

Yell dink, short, or out to let your teammates know and react faster.

    Hustle.

    Never let the ball drop.

Other than that it really depends on what your coach is looking for. Mine often looked for skills and athleticism. Since you cant really do anything about the latter, just show that you know correct stuff like passing stance and hitting motion and you'll prob get in.

  2. LOTTSA WATTA ^_^

  3. wear something bright so you stand out on the coaches minds. And when you're encouraging your teammates, make sure not to get down on yourself

  4. Coaches like to see consistency when you're serving, setting, spiking, and passing.  My coach always tells us to be the best server on the team you need to serve five or more times in a row in bounce.  They like controlled passing and setting.  If you control your passes and setts you are guarantied to be a starter, but you also have to have a half way decent spike.  I hope you make the team! hope this helped and good luck!!!!

  5. Make sure you hustle during the drills and to the different stations (if your school does those) and stay upbeat no matter what! Oh and have fun.

    Good luck!

  6. be aggressive and call for the ball by saying "mine!"

and varsity usually mans the best team, it usually goes...

    Freshmen Team

    Junior Varsity Team

    Varsity Team

so i don't understand what you mean...

  7. aggressive, call out, confidence, and if your loyal to the team
