Question:

Any meaning in a perfect preseason?

There are six teams that are perfect so far in the preseason. I know it's just preseason, but does this say anything for these teams? Seahawks, Redskins, Buccaneers, Lions, Titans, and Texans. Are they just getting lucky or are they legit playoff contenders? I'm a big Redskins fan and am excited about the upcoming season, but most people say they won't do any better than 8-8, if that. I feel they''ll do better than that, around 11-5. Plus, they haven't lost in preseason, but like I said everyone says that preseason is a joke. What do you think?

  1. The Preseason means nothing. Teams arnt playing there best players and they arnt playing there hardest. And thoes teams u named off only 2 might make the playoffs so the preseason means nada.

  2. The Colts lost all their pre-season games the year they WON the Sb-- is that any indication?

Wins and loses are meaningless in pre-season. In Football, it you let up just 1% it can make all the difference. Most starting players are mostly focused on just warming up and not getting hurt. And then you have players trying to make teams, that are giving 115%. So bassically the results are meaningless.

The Redskins are a good team, but they play in the toughest divison in all of football. In another divison, they would have a legit shot at 11-5 and and a high playoff seed. In the NFc east they will need some luck to make the playoffs. They have 6 games with Eagles, Cowboys, Giants. They will probably split with Giants/Eagles and lose both to Cowboys. Thats 4 loses right there. So if they would need to go 9-1 with the rest of their games to be 11-5.

  3. You really can't judge much from the preseason, the skins are in a very tough division 'we will just have to wait and see how they start the season.

  4. jack.  if you have a perfect preseason, it very rarely translates into anything spectacular in the regular season.

  5. we will have to see, but if they win in the third week they might have a chance.

  6. Look at the previous seasons of these teams:

    Buccaneers: bad

    Redskins: normally miss the playoffs

    Lions: bad

    Texans: bad

    Titans: normally miss the playoffs

Seahawks: not as good last year as they normally are

I've tended to find that teams usually perform the opposite of how they perform in the preseason.

For example, the Colts went 0-5 the year they won the Superbowl.

I think there is one reason why teams that do good in the preseason normally do good in the regular season and ones that do bad in the preason normally do good in the regular season.

    1. Bad teams try proving they can win and tend to play their starters too long.  This can result in injuries to the starters and impair the rest of their season.  When the starters are out injured, they get replaced by 2nd and 3rd string players that haven't had as much practice in the preseason as they should have and fall apart when they play.

    2. Good teams use the preseason to just get the rust off of their 1st string then use the majority of the time to test the 2nd and 3rd stringers to see which ones they will keep or get rid of.  This avoids the 1st stringers getting hurt in the preseason and get the 2nd and 3rd stringers some experience.  It also makes it easier to pick the correct guy to keep as a back up.  The good teams have nothing to prove in the preseason so it's more about picking the right guys than winning.

What really matters is winning in the regular season.  Another thing you'll tend to notice is that the perennial leaders normally tend to not pick up very many free agents.  They'll pick up what they need in the draft and the rest they'll develop on their own.  Pittsburgh and Indy are two good examples.  New England was that way until last year, but last year was kind of the exception to the rule.

  7. No, means nothing.

  8. PRESEASON IS A JOKE THEY SHOULD JUST DO AWAY WITH IT. YOU CANT TELL A TEAM WHEN YOUR TEAM ISNT STARTING THE BEST PLAYERS.

  9. it does not say anything about the titans because vince can't throw to save his life and the texans don't have a runnig game

  10. No, mostly backups play, so it doesn't really mean anything.

Remember the year the Colts went 14-2? They went 0-4 in the preseason and kicked @$$ in the regular season.

  11. Yes a Pointless Regular Season watch those Teams be brought back down to earth once they lose and lose some more.

  12. Doesn't mean much, but it does set the standard for winning going in to the regular season

  13. preseason shows who has better backups, because most teams are taking out their star players after a couple drives, and those are the players that will be in the entire time in the regular season, seahawks and the titans have the best chance, titans are questionable too because of the QB, redskins i think will be coming up, not as a force in the nfl, but one of the better teams in the nfc, a playoff team in the wildcard at best, but i think the eagles and cowboys are too much for them to get past
