Question:

Any mechanics out there?

I'm trying to figure out what needs to be repaired on my car... I have a '91 Chevy Corsica that doesn't put out enough heat in the winter; almost no air comes out of the vents and the defrost barely works. If I have the heat and defrost on at the same time, nothing happens. Also, when I turn the rear defrost on, the engine stutters. The engine also stutters when I am idling, with the break on and when in park.

Can anyone help? I can't go through another winter without heat...

  1. well the engine stuttering is because its old...not much you can do.

for your heater, sounds like your blower motor died. had to change mine...i was having the same problem. i did it myself so the part only cost me 90$ (mine was behind the glove compartment which i had to remove).

  2. call your local auto parts store like advance, they are very helpful with all of my car problems, and they don't take advantage of a lady.

  3. With all the symptoms you're describing, it's time you took it in to your mechanic for him to look it over.  You probably need a new thermostat to get the coolant temperature up where it belongs, and it sounds like you're overdue for a tune up also.

It is a 17 year old car after all.

  4. Sounds like an electrical problem because you state there is little to no air coming out,(blower motor), and the idle changes when switched on, (electrical voltage draw).

  5. There is a control valve that needs to be looked at> Have some 1 there check to see it opening and closing>

  6. change the thermostat. it,s either stuck open part way or you have a too low of thermostat. go to auto zone and ask for a thermostat and gasket for your car, better put some sealer on the gasket too so it won,t leak.
