Any mechanics out there that know about emissions?

i have a 1988 olds. 3800 and i,am getting a code 65. my hanes book says it is the 02 sensor. it says i,am losing contack at the plug in. can a person cut the wire and put a butt connector on it? also where is the engine coolant temperature sensor located on this engine? thanks for all your help.

  1. Butt connectors will alter the resistance reading to the pcm, so this is not a good thing to do. The o2 sensor needs to be replaced in it's entirety.  The temp sensor is usually located in or around the thermostat housing.  Good luck.
