Question:

Any more gifts for Dominicans suggestions?

Thanks all who helped on suggestion of gifts for Dominican children and adults . I didn't realize that as soon as I chose the best answer (so far) I would be unable to get any more responses. I've shared the previous responses with my son and now we're both even more excited about our trip. Making this vacation more than "just about us" has already made it that much more special for both of us. We went to the Dominican Dreams website (mentioned in an answer, http://www.dominicandream.org/donate-and... ) and seeing how happy those kids were just to have pencils and notebooks made us both realize just how much we have and take for granted here. We'll be bringing some school supplies, small toys and cosmetics (for the hotel staff) . Please offer any additional suggestions here. ; )

  1. Women cannot afford to even by a barrett or nail polish for themselves...so for your maid or whoever you want to give gifts to, go to your dollar store and stock up on nail polishes, lipstick, eye color/mascara--even perfumed soaps, hair spray- deodorant---all those items costs mega money that they can't afford because it's all IMPORTED.  --and don't forget the little girls-- the pretty rolls of ribbons for 50 cents, barretts, hair bands, socks, and even and they would love these, the crock shoes--they have hilly muddy land that they live in and the crock shoes support their feet and wash right out....if you go on a tour and get to be guests in someone's house-bring a cooking item for the mother--like small measuring spoons or wooden spoons or something type of utensils or napkins for their tables....they are very proud, wonderfully friendly and absolutely one of the greatest counties I have visited.....hit the dollar store and for $40 bucks you can become their heros.....oh, don't forget baseball bats and balls and if you can get old gloves from kids bring them....they are SAMMY SOUSA idols- since he's from the island and  you will literally see little 4 year old boys int he streets hitting rocks with wood sticks....it's sad.

  2. Hi Els, Happy Feet again,

I'm happy you had the right answers to your question(s). The only suggestion I want to make is don't give everything away at the same moment (or event) because tomorrow you will encounter other people/kids and they will happy as well receiving this small gifts. Anyway enjoy this trip (both of you)

and if there is any question, just ask! Happy to help you.

    Happy Feet
