Question:

Any mother or preschool teachers????

My daughter is 4 years old currently having exam in her kindergarten. I did revision with her and I found that she can match the alphabet wih the pictures and small alphabet to capital alphabet. But I think she has a problwm in writing the sequence of alphabet in order. She knows her ABC but she cant when she writes it she just can't follow the sequence. is that normal or is she having some problem. But she writes it for numbers.It will helpful if any kindergarten teacher or mothers to comments.

  1. My son did the same thing.  When he was in 2nd grade he would still get confused with "d" and "b".  They said it was perfectly normal.  You should just keep an eye on it and keep in constant contact with her teachers once she is in 2nd grade to just make sure she is ok.

  2. If she recognizes the letters and can write them, then she is doing great.  26 letters is a lot to remember.  It is okay if she hasn't memorized them yet.  Developmentally she is right on target.

  3. dont worry so much about what she cant do encourage and praise her for what she can

    children often do this activity out of order for several years before they can do it in order and dont worry about learning differences until she is at least 7-9 yrs old as most children cannot complete this task till then same with writing individual letters correctly

  4. My stepdaughter is 4, and in a very academically advanced private school and still gets it out of order sometimes. I think she's fine. ;) As long as she can write her name and match the letters she's doing great.

Your answer is in your first sentence: she is four years old.  She is doing incredibly well.  It is amazing what expectations we are placing on our children at such young ages, but their little minds are sponges, so they just soak it all in.  She sounds like she is doing just fine.  Don't worry!

Wow, my children didn't start kindegarten until they were 5, I thought they only had to paint, play with blocks and take naps, maybe other activities, as for the academic part, writing their name, first name, recognizing the alphabet, some letters, being able to sing the alphabet song, and maybe counting to 10?  I didn't push them, but they were early 5 year olds, and so I put them in Pre-first grade instead of regular 1st grade, and then they went to 1 grade the next year, my daughter is now 20 years old, she is a full time student in college, she's self motivated and has been since she was in about 6th grade, she's getting straight A's, and has been on the Dean's list. My son is 9 years old, I did the same with him, and he's getting all A's and one B,  on his last report card, each year he is showing more and more improvement, he's never had a grade under a B. Again he is self motivated, he comes to me when he has a problem, but I don't push him, I constantly tell him he's a genius just like his big sister, whom I also brought up with positive reinforcement throughout school.  When they didn't do well on a test, we just went over what problems they had trouble with, and figured a way to remember the correct way to do it.  I was pushed by a grandmother who was a teacher, and it made me hate school, hate homework, schoolwork, and we fought like cats and dogs, I made it through school by the skin of my teeth, not because I was stupid, but because I didn't get the positive reinforcement, and rebelled against what was being expected of me and therefore forced on me.  Don't look for problems, they will become apparent to you, and don't expect a 4 year old to do the kind of work that she's not ready for. Let her enjoy what she learns, and just keep telling her how smart she is.  Kids love to hear you praise them, they love to make you proud. Make sure she hears you telling your friends and relatives what she did, and how surprised you were by how smart she is, you have to make a big deal out of all their accomplishments, no matter how small or large.

  8. yes this is normal and I would not rush her out for testing...  it is also quite normal for her to even write her numbers and letters backwards as well... she is learning and at her age its not  unusual.. now if by the end of the 1st grade she is still struggling   I would start to discuss it further with her teacher.

    continue practicing with her and she will be just fine, sequencing is harder for some children, discuss this with her teacher and I am sure she will tell you the same thing   also  don't worry  children progress at different rates and some things that seem simple are more difficult.  keep her excited about her progress and practice with her and she will have it in no time

  9. It is normal for children under 6 years old facing difficulties writing down alphabets because they sees the letters in shapes and identifying sounds. Their fine motor skills are not well develop yet, and it is hard for them to make the necessary letters formations/shapes. Your can guide her by formatting dotted letters shape.

Wow, I would say she is doing great for 4,  fantastic and I've taught preschool and elem.  Sequencing is only important when alphabetizing, so what is the big deal for a 4 year old, I think it is awesome that she does what you have said :) Writing is a very hard skill for 4-5's and just the intensity of remembering how to write the letter probably causes her to lose focus on sequencing. If you are worried, have her work on sequencing picture stories etc. so at least she can sequence.

  11. If she knows the knows the P and b and d these are 3 of the hardest letters also q-keep constant watch and see if she can keep those apart if not get eyes checked pronto. And the numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 and 0. The 0 and o can be distracting as well. Good luck if more help is needed please ask yahoo and doctors.

  13. I think it's perfectly normal. My daughter is going to be 5 next month.Last year when she started her abc's she was going fine at the beginning with straight , curved and zig-zag lines , and then alphabet recognition and writing them separately was not a prblem at all, but when it came to write those alphabets in order it caused a great trouble.But then I made her practice it at home,  I gave her only 4 letters at a time. For example I gave her only a b c d to practice and when she did it without any mistakes I gave her  e f g h with the first 4 so she learned 4 new letters and practiced the previous 4 simultaneously I continued it until she started writing them without mistakes. Now she is good at it but it takes time, I still make her practice them. She can now write 2, 3 and 4 letter words but still she practices her ABC's as small and capital letters.

I am a 4 year old teacher and I can tell you your child is doing great.  It is completely normal for a child to not be able to write her letters in order.  Her just being able to recognize them is an accomplishment.  If you would like to practice this with her get some index cards and have her write one letter of the alphabet on each card then have her practice laying them down in order.  Make a game out of it.  Children learn best when they have fun.  You really have nothing to worry about yet.  I probably just gave the same examanation your child just took.  For 4 years old shes sounds to be doing great.

Your 4-year-old is doing better than some of my first graders.  I am a first grade teacher and I have some students (with only 12 more days left in the school year) that can't recognize which letter is which, let alone write them in sequential order!  My Autistic learner doesn't know the difference between a letter and a number!  Don't worry, she's doing pretty well.

  17. It happens often when children in kindergarten cannot keep their abc in order when writing. As long as she recognize her letters, can write her name she is fine. When it still consists in grade 1 and she cannot write very well or takes very long you might do some dyslexia work with her. I find that orton gillingham is a multi sensory aproach and works very well. If you are really worried you can start it with her now already it will only help her more in grade 1, and prevent her for redoing grade 1.
