Question:

Any music teachers or professors out there?

I have a BA in education and want to be a music teacher in a HS or College. I prefer to teach adult music in college.

I have some questions if your a teacher.

1. would there be any problems getting a college music position/ is there a high need?

2. Can i make a good living doing this?

3 do i need a PHD? Can i do this with a BA?

4. What area of music is in demand to be taught in college?

  1. 1. Those getting music positions at the college level tend to hold on tight, especially to get tenure.  It depends on the location, the university, etc.

    2. You can make an adequate living.  It also depends on what you consider a good living.  Small universities may have more openings but they pay less usually.

    3. You need a Masters working toward a PHD to get into a position and a PHD to keep a position.  BA for high school.

    4. The more areas of music you are competent in the more marketable you are.
