  1. Blue Mountains is a sure nice place to visit. My friends and i went to visit the town a couple of years ago and it never failed to mesmerize us. Before going there, we stayed in Sydney first in Crows Nest (Sovereign Inn, if I am not mistaken) and went off to Blue Mountains after 4 days. We stayed at Redleaf Resort. Food was so good there. Friendly staff as well. My favorite part of our trip was the tour in Scenic World. It was one of the best destinations in Australia.

  2. Katoomba is really overcommercialised and touristy, but it's near the 3 sisters and a few walks and is still worth a look.  There are a lot of walking trails in the area.  All the small towns in the mountains are interesting too (very easy to get to from any of the train stations in the mtns).  Katoomba is about 2 hours by train from sydney CBD, by road it's freeway standard for about 60km.  Oh, and they're only just mountains - only about 4,000 feet!  But still worth seeing

  3. There are lots of tourist places to visit around Katoomba - 3 sisters, Scenic Railway, Echo Point, Sublime Point. Go for a stroll along the main road of Leura and have lunch in one of the many eateries; you must go into the lolly shop.

If you are driving, stop for morning tea at Faulconbridge at Norman Lindsay's cafe. Just follow the signs from the highway turning into Gross Road at the traffic lights.

Mount Victoria and Blackheath are also beautiful to visit.
