Question:

Any notions on being ambidextrous ?

Hi Folks,

I am blessed or cursed with being able to operate left or right.

It makes no difference, but I prefer to right with the pen in the right hand, as using the left one means I cannot see what I have written.

Same with say, hammer & nails, I can swop hands to bung a nail in.

I normally play guitar right-handed, but given a left-handed one, the chords are there, if upside-down.

Anyone else in this situation I wonder ?

Bob

  1. I'm somewhat ambidextrous, but not as much as you.  I'm more comfy right handed but can jot down a few things with my left hand.  In baseball I bat left handed and golf I'm also left handed, but for anything else I usually prefer and stick to the right hand.

I think less than 10% of the population is ambidextrous to your extent or more.

You may say you're blessed or cursed, but on the other hand (HA), I think it's pretty cool....

  2. It is a useful situation being ambidextrous when you need whichever hand to get at something - like something stuck.

  3. Yep, I am.  I thought everyone was to a point until just recently.  I write with my left hand. But, I throw balls, bowl, and golf right handed.  I stir and paint with either hand, I just switch back and forth depending on my position.  I didn't notice I did this until someone pointed it out to me while painting, and I asked well doesn't everyone just switch hands when one gets tired?  I write on a chalk or white board with my right hand, but on paper with my left only.  Very interesting question. This really comes in handy when flat ironing my hair and cutting up veggies, etc.

  4. Being ambidextrous is a blessing. I would gladly be happy to be able to rely on either for any situation. Imagine how hard it would be if I lost my right arm and could only write with my right hand. I would have to re-learn years and years of doing everything with my right hand and teach myself to do it left handed.

Be glad that you have skills to do things with both sides.

  5. Ambidextrosity is great on the baseball field and the rifle range.  But it sure looks weird to watch someone writing left-handed.  I earnestly try to treat left-handers like normal people.

    Hey! Just kidding..

  6. More than you know, Bob.  Some of us have been artificially created via being slapped so many times for using our sinister (left) instincts instead of hesitant right hand.  Upside down chords?  Reversed to your reference maybe, 1st E on what you were originally taught as 6th so you strum toward rather than away from belly?  Wonder if this retraining has anything to do with my inability to focus both eyes at same time and I reverse sheet and write from bottom to top rather than top to bottom.

  7. Yes I am 100% ambidextrous. Believe it or not it can also be a sign or dyslexia

  8. I am jealous ...first time in my life I really feel envious  ....would like to be

    ambidextrous ...
