I have traced my Mom's maiden name--Coston--so far back to 1700 England's Shropshire County. In fact, there is an entire town named Coston located in Leicestershire. The family name dates back at least to before 1066, when William the Conqueror (originally from Normandy, France) invaded England and ultimately became King William I. In 1086, he did a census that became known as the Domesday Book, and my ancestors are listed in it. I just have to figure out the links between then and the William Coston born in 1700 (my 6th great-grandfather), and his father Thomas who was born in about 1662. The hard part is that at least EVERY generation has either a Thomas or William, or both. LOL

    I also have Pennsylvania Dutch (or German), Irish, Cherokee (I'm about 1/32), a tiny drop of French plus whatever is on my Dad's side.

     His sisters have done a quite extensive genealogy of their family (I have Johnsons on both sides, because my grandmother Coston's maiden name was Johnson)--in fact, I saw a print-out of it once and it went back to the Bible's Abraham!! It also included both Presidents Roosevelts, and King Charlemagne of France.

"Did" is past tense, meaning "done."

Being "done" with genealogy is, well, pretty much impossible. It's not like washing the car.

I'll be done when I'm dead. Then I'll be somebody else's on-going project.

Hmmm, where to start. I started my family tree back in 1970's with my dad to this day i have gone all the way to germany to 1750. On my mother side i have gone all the way to tennessee to 1800's. yes i have indian blood in me 1/4 cherokee and chawtah. I started with myself and have gone to my great great great great grandfather Johann Bartel in germany i have over 25 surnames to research.
