ok I just want to see your opinions :) in the past when you've worked with horses, what breed of horse was just for you personally your favorite to work with? That horse(s) that was just so enjoyable to be training? (like they just have great disposition)

  1. I've worked with many, but I like the Arabian best. Full of life, love and fairness, they require a person to think carefully about what they do or there will be consequences.

  2. I own 2 horses of my own, and my solid Paint is my 'favorite' when it comes to riding, but my Appendix is my 'favorite' when it comes to ground work.

I think overall, the best experience I've had when working with horses would be with my Appendix. Our time together so far has been the most challenging, but very rewarding and we've developed a great bond.

I've also LOVED working with my riding instructor's Belgian x QH x Standardbred mare.

  3. The POA mare I ride is perfect for me. She can be stubborn at times, but over-all she is usually a good girl.

  4. I love working with OTTBs,   They are truely great and willing.    Once you make a bond with them, its there for life, and they will do anything for you.

The last one I had, he could be walking up to me in the field, I would say ho, and he would stop.

  5. personally i'm partial to the appaloosa horse.

they're somewhat of a challange, but they learn very fast and are incredibly smart. they make great all-round horses, and once they pick up on something, they hardly ever forget. not to mention, they're gorgeous animals.

  6. Trained a bunch of horses Paints, Rocky mountain horses, Quarter horses, Thoroughbreds, Belgian, and a few other gaited breeds.

I like the quarter horses the best they have a lot of personality and are very smart while they may be a little hotter than other breeds they learn stuff very fast the gaited horses are a pleasure to train they always want to do whats right but seem to be very laid back and numb when you kick them to go you more than likly wont get more than a trot until after a month but i have never had a gaited horse buck with me they make great family horses and trail horses but my favorite has to be the quarter horses my least favorite is the draft horses they are large and know they are and tend to want to bully you until you show them who is boss I had one that tried to kick you if you walked by her pen or tried to bite you and if you went in the pen she would run at you and rare up and paw at you the owner of this Belgian mare wanted her to make a mounted patrol horse to ride in the crowds This mare was never broke to ride but was halter broke and gentled enough for MOST people to lead and be around but it took like 4 months just to get her to stop trying to kill any one that went near her and she was 18.3 hands at 4 years old

  7. I can't say one breed in particular, it all depends on the horse!  I've bred and raised Appaloosas, Appy/Arab crosses, Appy/QH crosses, Tennesee Walkers, and Quarter Horses.  It all depends on the individual horse and their willingness to learn or not.  You can't determine the breed by the behavior of one or two horses.  And then there is the human eliment.  Some people aren't patient enough to work with certain horses, some are too patient and get walked all over.  It all depends on the individual horse. You can't make generalizations.

  8. Arabians, and National Show Horses are fun to work with   :)    They are also really pretty and also have a Great disposition.

  9. I believe the thoroughbred, they are difficult and stuborn but once you get there it is very rewarding :) x

  10. I don't pick certain breeds I like different horses personalitys. I do enjoy being around Arabians though!

  11. I love arabians and thouroughbreds. Arabians are relatively small, and have awesome dispositions for the most part. Thoroughbreds are breat because they have lots of "get up and go" and although some are a little bit hot, most are very willing and sweet =]

    -Nicole :)

  12. What a question!  I love the Draft breeds because, for the most part, they are colder blooded and quieter...on the other hand, I always showed Quarters and Paints, probably because that is what we raised...but more importantly the breed that has taught me the most is the Arabian....They are smart, don't know what quit means (whether the situation is good or bad) and all they want, no...demand is that you use a little finesse when showing them what you want...they will accept reasonable discipline, but they do teach you to treat them with respect and even to say "Please" upon occasion.  If one has an ego problem and thinks that they can bully an Arabian into submission, they have another think coming...beautiful and very, very smart horses...love to work with them.

  13. I have had the most enjoyable time working with

    OTTBs.

They have a sense of humor and can do some of the funniest things.

They can be tough but once you get that bond with them they will do anything for you.

I love taking them off the track and re-training them for a second career.

  14. I am going to go against the grain a little and mention Morgans. I have the most intelligent willing Morgan. He tries very very hard to please people and will do anything you ask as long as he understands what you want exactly. He is quick at picking up things and rarely has a bad day. He is very social, for better or worse. Personally I would rather deal with focusing a horse's attention than persuading them to work. Morgans tend to be a little hot but that is part of the fun of riding a Morgan. Be warned they will keep you on your toes! It is the price for their intelligence.

  15. I have my own livery/riding stables and stud farm.

I earned my way in life and have a real love for clydesdales!

I have 5 of my own clydesdales which i don't use for schooling. One is 19.2hh and is VERY sore to fall off of.

I love animals and have loads of them around me all the time but I've always wanted stables since the age of 7 and saved up all my life to buy them. =]

I love all my horses and love breaking them in i'm reaking in a little filly for my friend just now and she is proving very  enjoyable, she took staright to the saddle and loves being ridden, she still has to come over jumps but i'm sure she'll do great!

  16. Trained QH's, Arabian, 1/2 Arb and QH and a mustang:)  Loved training the Arabian and ~1/2 Arab, didn't mind working with the others.  They all did great:)

  17. I have really enjoyed training my mustang.  He is SO smart, he actually thinks about things instead of just reacting like most other horses do.  And the relationship we've built is unlike any I've had before.  Training him has been the most rewarding experience of my life.

  18. Connemara ponies and Irish sport horses

  19. Love training any breed the rewards of putting the horses thru their first everythings are breath taking.  The curiosity and nervousness is something that just makes me laugh and love the feeling of trust received by the horses is great.  My favorite horse to have trained is my horse Bud I know have passed him down to my 11 year old Daughter and I am so proud of both of them, he is QH/ Arab and a personality that never stops but when my daughter rides him he just takes on a whole new role with her and protects her I love him so much.

  20. my favourite are welsh cobs,  they are sometimes stubbon, sometimes cheeky, and (it sounds strange) they have a great sense of humour. then ones i have worked with, know who they can get away with things with, and who they cant. they also have great action and are great to jump with

  21. all my life i have been training Quarter Horses. they are very tolerant and i love them to death. i train my QHs to do many things. first u always teach you horse ground respect. dont not accept when they walk on top of you. second i teach them both english riding and western riding so i can show them in multiple classes. the QH is a very sweet breed of horse and i recomend u 2 train one of them :)
