I'm looking to add another dog to my family. I already have a Field Spaniel and would like another breed that would compliment his traits that I love so much: docile, gentle, independent, intelligent. I want a dog that can keep up with our active lifestyle. We run at least 5 miles a day and go hiking and camping nearly every weekend. I'm looking for a medium sized dog. Nothing over 50lbs. And I'd like a dog that has the same silky hair as my spaniel. Grooming is not an issue for me as I enjoy bonding with my dog every night as I brush him out. I was looking into another Field Spaniel, but they're quite rare so I'm looking into other breeds of dogs. Any suggestions?

  1. A lab or a retriever.

  2. I agree, maybe try an australian shepherd or a german long haired pointer. I have always had a love of the aussie! Please make sure you try looking in your local rescue center please!

  3. I like boxers. They are easy to train, can keep up with you running hiking etc, they are great with families and kids (if that matters), want to please you, short haired, not aggresive but will protect you with their life, and look intimidating.

  4. min. schnauzer... they are so smart, active, and very easy to train to do almost anything...... very gentle with people and loves kids... and he doesnt shed at all....

  5. australian sheperds

  6. I always like Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. They love the water, they are so gentle, they are beautiful, they love exercise and over all they sound like the best dog for you.

Personally I think you should really get a dog from the pound or the local animal shelters.

I hope this helped!! And good luck!

Oh and I am sorry but this is over 50 lbs probably. Sorry bout that!!

  7. How about another spaniel, maybe a Springer spaniel, you sound like you have a perfect, active life for an active dog. Or how about a Collie.

A tamaskan dog is a really cool dog, and it is very active, but i think it is over 50 pounds...

  9. Have you considered an English Springer Spaniel?  Very similar in looks to the Field Spaniel.

  10. hi,

to know what type of dog will suit you, you can use this dog finder match up http://tinyurl.com/6gkcok

the goal here is to help you figure out what type of dog best suits you and your personality. The results of the match up will suggest certain breeds.

    hope this helps
