  1. Suriname, formerly Dutch Guiana, was a Dutch spice trading colony in the West Indies in the 1700's before it obtained independence as a separate country. It is on the northern tip of South America- next to Venezuela.


  2. course i've heard of it - i live next door in Guyana!  Surinam IS in south america.  North of brazil, east of Guyana, west of French Guiana.  dutch speaking......capital is Paramaribo....great cafes and restaurants, good shopping....... what else you wanna know?

  5. Sure, I've heard of it. I know it is in the caribbean sea, close to Trinidad, right? I know very little about it because I live in Venezuela which is close too.

  6. Suriname, officially the Republiek Suriname, is a country in northern South America. Other common names are Surinam or Sranang. It was formerly known as Nederlands Guyana, Netherlands Guiana or Dutch Guiana. It lies in between French Guiana to the east and Guyana to the west.
