Any one here into creollos?

I have visited my sister inlaw this weekend, she has a 6 year old creollo gelding who is proving to be a bit difficult, bargy dominant kicking. He was broken when she had him but now wont allow her to put the saddle on let alone mount him (shoots off bucking if she puts her foot near the stirrup on the odd occasion she can get the saddle on) Anybody here have creollos or similar who can offer her advice. I know the ususal horse rules apply but I just wonder if someone with experience with gaucho broken horses might know something she and I are missing.

He does appear to be very distrustful. She has had him for a year and he came on the boat from Argentina spring 07

  1. Fact... Gaucho training is HARD on the horse.

Fact... Gaucho trained horses go one of two ways, they either submit totally and are the most obedient horses on the planet or.....they are as hard as nails and need very strong, clear signals as to who is the boss, and it might well be the horse if the rider is a sympathetic horse lover who doesn't understand how thees horses tick.

Breaking consists of pegging out alone as a youngster (2) They are left for a long time with NOTHING. One person will take that horse a drink, twice a day then leave it alone again. after a while, sometimes up to 4 days the person who takes it the water will un-tether it, put a saddle and bridle on it and ride it. If the horse accepts this OK then it is considered "broken" if not then it is re-tethered and left again. This process goes on until the horse submits.

Please get a trainer. Horses like this make fantasic work horses. Play Polo-cross or something with him. You will have to keep him very busy, and please do not be tempted to over feed him.

He will not thank you for it and nor will his behaviour.

He will never be a happy horse just hacking about. This "type" need their brains streched..Don't know if you follow Parelli (I always thought it really pants untill I bought my little Appy+Warm-blood mare) but am now a convet'

Find a recomended Parelli person to help you. PLEASE go via the Parelli recomendation web-site, there are a LOT of folk who watch the vidio's and think they can do it...not the case I'm affraid. Done properly this method will have any horse just where we want them......our best friends. They are happier for it too. Give it a go at least but with guidance for a Pro'

Where are you based. I know my Parrelli Lady will help you if she can....& she is GREAT

  2. hi had to laugh i have a17 year old creollo (not sure we are spelling it right will check his papers later) he came from the Argentine and he can be a bugger he most definitely has different attitude to my other horses she must stand up to him but dont hurt him he will bond but it takes forever pablou hates to be alone and i have had him for about 7 yrs and only ever had one kiss!!!!feel free to contact me good luck,he can still be grumpy now but he loves to work and at the moment he is teaching alittle girl to ride stick with it you will be rewarded above post explains why he hates being alone

  3. The  Criollo has his 'bluff' in on your S-I-L.  He has simply exerted his dominance and found no resistance.  Now he's in control.

Time for sister in-law AND horse to find a trainer.  Gaucho training wouldn't have left much doubt as to who was in charge.  It probably answers why he's mistrustful as well.
