I would like to know heaps about Auckland and what it is like to live there. Where abouts in Auckland do you live?

If not in Auckland, then what part of nz do you live in? What's your favourite thing about the town/city you live in.

I was born in Palmerston North :)

Thanks in advance :)

  1. I think Auckland is an awesome place!! I live in Christchurch and have done for 7 years now and i'm happy there though i don't see myself living here forever. I used to live in Whakatane in the bay of plenty and it was definetly much warmer up there and so one day i see myself moving somewhere like Nelson to be nestled just a stones throw away from the gorgeous golden sand beaches of Abel Tasman national park.

Anyway back to the main question i've visited Auckland many times, last time I was there I hired a rental car and just loved driving there!! I thought i would end up getting lost all the time and being stressed when in actual fact i found it a very easy place to navigate around. their zoo is awesome, definetly the best in NZ (and yes i'm a zoo freak, have been to pretty much every zoo in NZ). devonport and the north shore and takapuna are all great. Also Waiheke island is beautiful. So whilst i don't live in Auckland I definetly think its a cool place to visit, living there wouldn't be for me as i prefer smaller places but i certainly don't see why people go on about it being c**p so much.

    I just love NZ :-)

  2. I really wish small town NZers would get over their pathetic hatred of Auckland. I'm sick of the arguement that it's too big, too crowded etc. The reality is, on the world stage Auckland is quite a small city and it's spread out more than most cities of a similar size. It does have bad traffic, but not dramatically more than another city of the same size. The central government has neglected the public transport there for decades.

The advantages you do get from living in Auckland, compared to other parts of NZ, is the abundant job market and far higher salaries. Even unskilled people can find work there. I've lived in provincial towns, and there's no decent jobs there!

Another thing is the close proximity to a real international airport, shops, entertainment, concerts etc that other NZers have to travel to Auckland for.

While there are certainly bad areas of Auckland, there are also really nice areas like the North Shore, East Coast Bays, Inner city areas like Ponsonby and others. There are also nice areas in other parts like Titirangi in the west and howick in the east. I live in Grey Lynn which is 5mins from town, so no traffic issues for me. I'd much rather live here than in some backwater called Te Awamutu! Thanks

  3. I am from Scotland and spent my first 3 years in NZ living in Wellington and loved it for the most part,

I now live in Auckland and I also love it, more than Wellington actually. I live and work on the North Shore so I don't have the stress of commuting like so many Jafas so that helps, also I think the North Shore is the best place to live anyway, especially  Devonport.

People are friendly, its easy to get out for a weekend etc (unlike Wellington) great shops, great beaches, good pubs,

The only thing I dont like about Auckland is they dont know how to drive...grrrrr, at least by international standards, the level road rage here is high!

I'm staying for a while though, Its great!

  4. I personally think Auckland is the worst city to live in, I live in Te Awamutu(about 25 minutes south of hamilton).      To many people in Auckland, to many cars.

  5. born n bred in south auckland (papakura) loved going to the pictures & rainbows end! oh & the zoo. moved to Tauranga in 2000 best decision I could make. love the relaxed lifestyle down here, everone says "hi" theres none of the "WTF are you looking at" looks lol the beaches are clean & full of seafood &  its not overrun by foreigners (no offense) moving to aussie in august so will miss NZL heaps.
