Quite often the cruise ship has planned activites like what you have described.  Every cruise has an activites director and all sorts of fun games and such planned everyday.  Usually you get a newsletter the night before of all the happenings on the ship  with times and locations.  We tend to plan our days around these (espcially our at sea days).
