It's a new antibiotic shot and one single dose generally lasts about 2 weeks. What' the price you paid for a single dose? I've read somewhere that the price depends on the weight of the animal and generally it's 2 dollars per pound. My cat is only 6.5 lb but the vet charged 70 bucks for one single dose, was I overcharged?

  1. after my cat rec'd this he stopped walking

I took to vet and she gave predasone he walked a month or so and then that was it he turned yellow lost weight and died

he was only 2 he had lukemia and I think the shot did him in

they gave shot for a uti infection

  2. 3 days ago I took my cat to the vet, 10 AM, she had been vomiting and not eating or drinking.  The vet could not find an apparent cause but gave her an injection of Covenia.  At 6AM the next day, she was acting normal and has continued to be her old  self.  So, so far so good.  The cost was $15 for the shot (she weighs 12.5 lbs) and $45.00 for the office call and she also received a LRS fluid injection.  If she continues to be OK I will consider the Convenia a miracle drug that saved my 6 year old cat.

  3. my cat was give a shot of this for a uti without the vet taking any tests first

my cat has lukemia..........The vets xray machine was broken and no tests done

the vet based it on her Mothers 10 year old healthy cat

    NOT A GOOD THING

after three days my cat no longer could walk

after taking to vet for shots of predisone and home care and trips to the vet regular basis he started to walk again and play but was never the same

now he no longer can walk

he was tested to see if he had parisites by the new vet that would cause him to stop walking but he does not have....he does have the lukemia but I think its more needle related

Pheizer needs to know of any side effect so that they can save other cats and perhaps relable product

also the vet that did this to my cat should have called phiezer to see if ok to take or done some sort of lab work

In my opinion...she is more damaging to animals then the product is.......a danger to ones pet basing an injection on someone elses pet

    shame on her.

  4. My cat was given convenia inj It has turned my wonderful cat into having sezuire's on a daily bases. I was told after the fact that it stays in there systems for 65 days, allthough Pfizer says 30. The bottom line is my cat went in for an infection which was cleaned up immediately and because he had diarrhea was given the injection. I am sickened by what has happened and this drug needs to be taken off the market. I do not want another animal to go thru what my baby has. If anyone else has been thru this maybe we can join together and go after Pfizer to get this Drug off the market.

  5. my cat 4.2kg got 2 bits on head,   exam fee: 53.2    metacam 5mg/m: 25.7    convenia 79.8   duplocillin: 23.1   all GST 16.5  total paid 181.8    I'm in melbourne.

  6. for your cat convenia inj cat.should be cost around 30 dollars plus tax,but the vet charg also the consultation general ?illness?or injury

so I think it is ok.good luck

  7. My cat had an URI and stopped eating .  One day after the shot, kitty was asymptomatic.

The only source of infection, that I can surmise, was the veterinary clinic. Duke has NO contact with any other felines and they are listed as the sole source of infection.

Iatrogenic disease comes to my mind.

  8. If the shot didn't the visit, it may be a little steep, but like one poster said. A vet needs to make a living. They went to school for 8 years and have bills to pay too. It all really depends on where you live in the country. the typical drug mark up is 2-3 times cost. The new $4 generics, petmeds, and rabies vaccines going to a 3 yr rotation has really hurt Vets business model. They used to make a decent amount off of what they sold and now many Vets are having to go to more of consulting fee based approach where they charge a certain amount just recommended a script. Some Vets do really like this drug because it lasts so long, is easy for the owners, and works. Plus, you can't bu it at Wally World. It should not be used every time, and isn't any better than oral *if oral is given properly- and owners usually forget a pill every once in a while*, but it an option more Vets will offering for sure. Vets are not getting wealthy being Vets, they do what they do because the love people and they love animals.

  9. My jared has had the shot he weighed 9lb and the shot cost $54.00.  And the cough didnt come back for 6 months. All so watch out how it is made and how long it has been sitting around and if they water it down.  Because he went to a the county shelter to get a shot because I work out the shelter and the shot only lasted two weeeeks after he got the shot and cough was back so I went to the vet and the shot lasted 6 months and the cough is just starting to come back

  10. Hi there.....my cat received a shot of Convenia and she weighed at the time about 8-9 pounds. The vet I take her to charged me $18.68, and $6.68 for a shot of Depomedrol. One of the reasons I go to this vet clinic is the price, although they are about 45 minutes away from me. Good luck with your furry friend.

  11. Several things go into the pricing for Convenia...Some bigger clinics can order a bulk supply and get discounts whereas small clinics have to pay regular price when they order only 2-3 bottles at a time.  There are shipping charges and sales tax put on.  It comes in powder form with a bottle of sterile diluent to mix with it.  Once mixed together, the costly bottle is only good for 28 days then we throw it out.  Price is dependent on weight and isn't appropriate to use every time a cat needs an antibiotic.  Therefore, I throw out just about every other bottle without being able to use even half of it.  At the price I charge, $55-$70 per injection, I often break even or make a minimal profit.  As nice as it sounds to not have to pill your kitty, Convenia doesn't do it all so listen to your vet or ask them ?s about it!  As far as having any adverse reactions to it, it's rare and Vets can't foresee that in your cat anymore than a Medical Doctor can when he vaccinates or gives your child an antibiotic injection for the first time.

  12. I paid 18.28 Canadian dollars for Convenia injection, in Canada (2010), that included giving of this shot. The clinic I go to is Southside Pet Hospital in Edmonton and I noticed that they are very effective and resonably priced. They also check the reaction to the shot daily. My cat is old and small, about 4 pounds, maybe that is why it was so cheap.

  13. my 15 pound cat(who has asthma) who was just finishing a course of flagyl for intestinal problems was given Convenia about 3  hours ago because a non sterile c & s of urine had bacteria.  my vet did not charge me for showing up and having her give the shot and the shot was $65 and $4 for waste and i am in los angeles.

  14. I own 8 cats and all were due for yearly checkups last week. The 2 oldest cats 14 and 19 each had bad teeth. Each one was given the new drug Convenia for the infection. Cost for each cat was $44 a dose. No pills or chasing them around to shove anything down their throats. I see no after effects so far. Everything is their ususal self. Both are about 13 pounds so if its by weight $ is about right. I was given the choice of the pills or shot- I liked the fact that the med stays in their system longer and there is no doubt they got the total dosing. Bears watching because it is a new drug. Many animals will have some reactions with something foreign in their systems. This seems ok to me but will monitor the long term effects on the girls.

  15. My Vet charged £92.97 for 3.70mml injection + £8.42 for 0.32ml rimadyl+ £27.92 consultation fee totalcost £129.31 +17.5% grand total £151.94 a total rip off

  16. I took my cat (9lbs.) to the emergency clinic tonight for a small clean looking bite on her front paw.  The exam cost was $125; plus the convenia injection cost $80; then another $10 medical waste fee.  This place was in Westbury, NY.               Jo-Ann A.

  17. Has it occurred to some of you that VETS have a RIGHT to make a living?  If they didn't charge higher than cost on treatments however would they stay in business?

Fees vary greatly from vet to vet around the world...and around the corner.

To the OP if you have questions about your bill, the place to turn is your vet clinic. If you have been over-charged (ie mistake) it can be addressed, and if you have not, you certainly have the option of finding a vet who charges less.

  18. The price is $299.00 for 10ml at allivet dot com, do the math, they over charge for everything, mine charged $55.00 for .30ml, which at cost mentioned would have been $8.97. Just like the Banamine which I was charged $17.00 for 1CC/ml, it's $29.99 for 100ml,so the cost would have been $.29. In short they have now topped used car salesmen as scum of the Earth.
