  1. The last time I was on a set for a short-subject film, they used a Panasonic HDX200 and transferred the video to an Apple Macintosh G4 PowerBook (it has a PCMCIA slot for the P2 card) with an external 500 gig fire-wire hard drive and were using FinalCut Pro (I brought the discs and serial number).

After the shoot, for post-production, the external hard drive was connected to a MacPro tower and editing was finished with FinalCut Pro and the high definition video was rendered by DVD Studio Pro and burned to a LaCie BluRay optical drive

The Sony XDCAM will transfer video with FireWire, so the same stuff applies (though the G4 is not required since a PCMCIA slot is not needed) and you can transfer directly to a MacBook, MacBook Pro or iMac or MacPro Tower over the firewire connection into FinalCut, through DVD Studio and out to a burner. (Remember, the camera's DV port connects to the Mac's Firewire 400 port with a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable - and firewire, i.Link and IEEE1394a are all the same thing.)

  2. if you have a macbook pro you'll love the xdcam ex. flash straight into the express port!

plus - the xdcam also has sdi out. totally uncompressed image. dunno what the p2 does. also, the sxs cards are considerably cheaper than p2.

i haven't used either but i think i would totally get xd as my next cam.
