  1. For a 3 year old I think one of the best things you can do is to involve them as much as possible in daily life, and add in simple educational activities.  Here are some great ideas for you:

    Good luck!

    hope this helps...

  5. A "curriculum" for children of such a young age is ridiculous! This is no disrespect to you, but to the idiots in power who come up with these ideas.

Although my daughter did go to school between the ages of 5 and 12, when I started home-educating her,  I did encourage her learn from about 2 or 3 years old.  However, it was very child-led and she just picked things up.

Basically I bought loads of colourful books suitable for her age and beyond and just left them around the house in her reach.  I used to watch "Countdown" in the afternoons and she would sit on my lap and just pick up the letter names and start to recognise what they looked like.  (If "Countdown" is still on television, then watch it, or just leave it on).  Anyway, she then started to look at the books and work out for herself what the letters and numbers were.  At one stage she even found the Yellow Pages interesting to look at!

I also read simple poetry (mostly about animals) to her, some of which she memorised of her own free will.

Also try to include some art /craft which is great for stretching the imagination and encourages practical ability.

I don't know if you intend to home-educate after school age, but if you, don't worry about the various curricula.  Just teach what your child is interested in and have fun!

  6. Try Starfall:

  7. Look up Foundation Stage Curriculum (I think QCA) and possibly the new Early Years Foundation Stage as this will show you what nursery/preschools are aiming towards in terms of education. You can order guidance booklets of f the website too.

Other sites such as www.underfives.co.uk, www.sparklebox.co.uk (or com not sure) and www.teacherstv.net or www.teachers.tv might help!

  8. I tried Letter of the Week for a while. It's a great program, just didn't fit with our learning styles. It contains a variety of activities, has recommendations that can actually be started at birth, and then continues into early reading instruction.

  9. The Foundation Stage doesn't have a curriculum, just a list of goals which children 'should' meet by the end of reception year. Honestly they don't set the bar very high and having read the document (see link) I'm ignoring the whole stupid thing because so much of it is about fitting in at school rather than real child development and is thus irrelevant for home ed.

As alipops suggested the Cbeebies site is excellent.

  10. We like Edhelper.com:

    http://www.edhelper.com/

It has material for children from about 3 years old, right up through High School.

Another excellent site for younger kids is Enchanted Learning.

They have some great resources too.
