Any opinions on the new track in Erie Pennsylvania, Presque Isle Downs?

I can't seem to get a handle on it, I hit Philadelphia, Delaware, Woodbine, tracks of that class pretty regularly but I can't seem to find something that wins at Presque Isle...is that a common problem right now or am I missing something glaring?

  1. Presqe Isle is using the new Tapeta synthetic track. That has been causing some problems for handicappers because there aren't really any other tracks to compare that surface to.

  2. Preque Isle, when I've played it, I've had good luck taking shippers from good barns located elsewhere.  It's kind of an ingenious new track.  Erie, PA can arguably be considered part of the midwest or the north east, and with the casino money bolstering the purses it is a natural draw for trainers from both areas.  I always take a good look what tracks and barns the horses have experience on...that's actually a pretty good strategy for any midwestern track, IMO.

  3. It seems to me that the best formula is playing it like Mountaineer. They're sharing jockeys, trainers, and horses. It could definitely be different next meet, since this is just a short opening meet. Good Luck !!!

  4. With all the new surfaces there is some initial 'getting to know you' time necessary.  Presque Isle is the first track to install the Tapeta surface (Golden Gates will also be adding Tapeta shortly).  Look for horses coming from Maryland's Fair Hill Training Center which has a Tapeta training track.  Experience over the surface is always a plus.
