I'm Canadian but watch the NFL religiously. I don't like the CFL with their bizarre rules and 3 downs. Am I alone?

  1. Unfortunately you are not alone, but I cannot understand the mentality of someone who is content to hate home-grown product, and religiously watch a game from a foreign country.  Remember, CFL game contribute to the economy, NFL games on Canadian stations not only do not contribute, but are an actual drain because the broadcast rights cost money.

It seems to me a real football fan would be above hating the game that puts money in the pockets of fellow Canadians.

By the way, to really get the feel for the difference in the games, one should sit in on both NFL and CFL regular season games.  The NFL is not nearly as exciting live as it is on tv.

The Grey Cup was donated as the champion trophy in 1909 and the modern CFL era started in 1954.

    The Superbown started in 1967.

  2. Yeah I live in Canada too and I don't care much for CFL, I was excited a few years back of there being 10 teams in the league, I mean remember the 12 team season? Huh? That was fun.

With only 8 teams it's painfully dull, 6 make the playoffs and aside from the Grey Cup I often find myself not caring.

The 3 down rule is horrid, because a team only has two chances to pick up 10 yards the running game is usually kept dorment, also teams only get one timeout a half but a team with the ball and under 2 minutes to go in the game can stop the ball as much as they want.

I agree completely with the 1 point rule, if a kick makes it into the end zone, whether missed field goal or punt, I love that rule and it annoys me why the NFL doesn't have it with so many teams losing by a single point when they should be able to go for 1 point.

But yeah the NFL is much more exciting and with more teams playoff runs are actually runs.

  3. People are way too negative.

Have you ever been to a game out west in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan or Winnipeg?

  4. Maybe not.

And your not (or maybe you are!) because, thousands of people who don't go on Yahoo! answers probably can't say their opinion!

  5. You may not be ALONE but you should be!!!   It is time Canadians quit worshipping American institutions of all kinds and started supporting Canadian Institutions!!!!

  6. The worst thing about the CFL...?? Is the CBC, Canadian Broadcasting Corp. They do not allow the game to progress, through their antiquated methods of producing the game to TV audiences, ie., 4 or 5 cameras to cover the game, where the NFL has 15 or more at each game...One of the worst rules in the CFL is the no yards on punt returns. I wouldn't mind it if the yards (5) were given if the ball was caught in the air, but once it hits the ground, the 5 yard restraining zone would be gone. The league has refused to streamline it's rulebook in fear of the Americianization of the game. A lot of American players come up here and find themselves lost in the dressing room reading the rule book...Im not saying to go to the American game, but to change from a spectators point of view would be a positive move.

  7. You watch the NFL religiously, and you're a Browns fan?  That's gotta be painful.  No wonder you're so full of hatred and rage...

Nah, but in all seriousness, I enjoy watching both the CFL and the NFL.  Mind you, when the CFL shows games on Sunday, I don't watch them, unless the Stamps are playing, as they will be this week.  Unless my favourite CFL team is playing, I prefer to watch the NFL.  But as a football fan who grew up watching and playing the Canadian game, I certainly don't hate it.

That being said, I don't see anything wrong with hating the CFL.  Now, if you said you hated hockey, we might just hafta extradite you to the States... ;)

  8. You should be deported!

  9. Yes I hate the CFL. It's the only league where you can be 3-11 and still have a shot at the playoffs. The only reason its around is to keep a few bureaucrats employed and the same goes for the broadcasters. They should focus their energies in forging one great Canadian team to be placed in the NFL.

  10. I have to agree with the person above me?

    YOu like the Browns?

    LOLOLOLOL

thats has to be totally painful to watch that sad team never do anything.

How many Super Bores has Cleveland won?

    LOLOLOLOL

Grey cup is far more exciting, face facts.

anytime the superbowl is on, i watch it but by halftime it puts me to sleep, thats how boring the game is.

  11. no i love the CFL i find nfl is boring with the small field, too much running plays
