Any other birds like the african grey?

Hi, I recently lost my beloved cockatiel, and i am searching for a new bird. [not that my baby was replaceable]

I have read up on parrots and such, trying to see what kind of other birds are out there.

The african grey parrot happens to strike my attention, but they require alott of work and are extremely messy. I would still love to get one, because they are so intelligent and "like a dog" if you will.(they love their owners)

Are there any other similar birds out there? [birds who can talk, follow you around etc]

Thank you

  1. caiques learn to do the same things but not as much

and still are fun. i dont have one but they are just a little bigger than a tiel (which im sorry for your loss) but the caiques will bond and be really good birds

  2. They are not messy at all, my mom has one and im living here right now, its the quietest, smartest, and Cleanest bird i know. You cant really trust the internet until you actually experience what there talking about. African Greys tend to only like there owners though, so its depending on what you like. My mom's birds loves her to death and lets her pet her and play, but if I go up there, (if i have food) then she'll be like "ohhhh yummy" and i'll give her a piece of my food. hehe.. but she gets frighten if i put my hand in her cage, sometimes get very scared. =/ but other then that they are great birds. i really recommend them. Also, before considering a parrot, remember then Swauk like crazyy. Emma, (my moms bird) doesnt sreach but just talks to her self. like sometimes if shes bored, she'll say "let me out" or "kitty Kitty" and the cats will come and she'll watch them.

Well good luck and I hope i helped!

  3. amazons are smart, so are conures and mini macaws.

  4. You can go larger with a Greenwing Macaw, but that's a BIG jump from a cockatiel. How about a lesser sulfur crested cockatoo. Many of the same Grey qualities, but smaller in size. Remember, though, all parrots are "messy"!!! (I promise!) kjl
