Question:

Any other bowlers have an inside to outside hook?

I'm wondering if there are any other good bowlers here (150 average) who have an inside to outside hook? It is VERY uncommon, but I'm wondering who else here has it?

If it is hard to understand, you basically bowl the total opposite of orthodox. I stand all the way to the left, bringing my feet together on the 2nd to last dot on the left, and using the arrow directly to the left of the center arrow. I throw it with my right hand, but it basically breaks how a lefty's shot would break, it goes from the left side and breaks to the right. I started bowling like this and have never stopped because it is comfortable to me.

My average is 176.

Anyone else bowl totally opposite of orthodox like this? If so, please post your average.

  1. The common term for this is a "back-up ball."

I don't do this, but I know somebody in my league who does this (a righthander with a left-to-right hook) and averages about 190.

I know somebody else who did that, averaged about 150, but learned to switch to the other side and is around 170 after a few months.

It's not something that I've seen at the pro level, but hey, if it works for you, there's no rule against it.  After all, Walter Ray Williams, Jr., perhaps the best bowler on the planet, has a bit of an unorthodox delivery; good thing a coach didn't decide to "correct" it, huh?

I'm curious to see what high levels of success may have been achieved by back-up bowlers.
