Any other degree than English to become an english teacher?

Can I do a degree in something other than English to teach it in a secondary school? My GCSE teacher studied classics (I'm studying classics for A - Level) for her degree, can you guys think of anything else?

Would you want a historian teaching math?  A sociologist teaching physics?  Of course not.  If you don't like the subject matter enough to study it, then you shouldn't be teaching it either!
