  2. I have been skating for 1 year and 9 months and I am in FS 4/5 too. The only thing that's holding me from FS 6 is the axel!! D: I have lutz and camel and such.. but not the axel yet.

:[ It's stating to frustrate me! Haha but good job on your progress too...

  3. im a figure skater in fs4 as well and i am in the middle of trying to pass. so i wish you luck too

  4. i'm also a figure skater in asia (ISI-Asia) and guess what... i'm also in fs4!! Well, I'm around in the middle. But once I perfect all my elements, I'll be doing fs5 elements!!

i've been skating irregularly for 3 yrs.. so my improvement has been veeeery slow. I started around 12.5 yrs old, and I'm still taking lessons until now.

I enjoy skating.. it takes off the stress I receive from school, and it makes me work hard not only mentally but also physically. Plus, you also meet a lot of unique people; experienced coaches, skilled veteran skaters, ordinary people trying out the sport... and lots more! You also get to join competitions, and you gain priceless experience from there.. The grueling practice sessions, the hardwork trying to nail jumps and center spins....the falls... but all of the hardships are worth it, when you place significantly in your event (esp. if it's first place)!

The road's been rough, and I still have a long way to go (the fs levels in ISI Asia are fs 1-10), but I'll do my best to reach at least fs7, where ISI skaters first do the flying camel spin.

I hope you do your best in your skating, samantha-san! or should i say, samantha-senpai!

  5. I also skate ISI, and i have been skating on and off since I was six.  I compete at FS4, but am moving up into competing at FS5.

I have had a lot of hard times skating, like falling on my axel and brusing my side... right before last years worlds! My coach got so mad. She told me I wasn't allowed to do them before worlds, and I just skipped the last of the classes. It's a good thing too, because I got first in my solo and compusory and second in the team stuff. After they had announced the production number results, they moved onto the team standings. They kept calling teams and places, but we didn't hear our name. We thought we didn't place at all, and our parents were really confused too. We were standing on the ice in a huge huddle because we were all frozen- we had a beach themed production number- and they called us as the 1st place team! We were all so excited, it was amazing. I hope you are going to worlds this year, and I wish you the best of luck in all your future skating endevors.

  6. hey. i've been skating for 6 years since i was 8. all of my single jumps came really easily and i was on top in the lower levels like no-test. i did, 1 small pre-preliminary competition, and a really big preliminary competition. all without even having my axel. the day after the competition i landed my axel :P from then on i worked so hard on my double jumps and moved straight up to juvenile. i was a wreck in juvenile. barely landing my double salchow. and got last in every competition because of my nerves and lack of experience. then the next year i was too old for juvenile (you have to be 12 and under) and moved up to intermediate. i did better but still had a lack of self confidence. this year i am landing my doubles and working on some of my triples, still in intermediate.

i know i didnt include anything about spinning but i am a really good spinner i just dont like to do it as much as jumping.

    good luck skating :P

  7. My coach told me I was naturally talented, so she moved me up quickly (because I could already do a lot of stuff), and when I got to USFSA testing, my backward edges were horrible! (cause I skipped FS 1, 2, and 3). When I tested for my Pre-preliminary moves in the field, I didn't do as well on my backward edges.

So my advice to you is - Don't think ice skating is all about the hard skills and tricks, some of the hardest levels require the most basic skills.
