Any other rat lovers totally fed up with this?

I hate reading questions and answers where rats are dissed because of their bad reputation of sewer rats.

To those of you that are the ones dissing pet rats:

I own 3 rats currently and had 3 rats before them. My friend has had 3 or 4 rats. Neither of us has ever been bitten. My rats l**k and nibble me as they do their rat buddies. Pet rats do not carry diseases, they are clean animals. I rarely find that my rats cage stinks, instead it's always the hamsters or the mouses. The only thing my rats have in common with a sewer rats is that they are pack animals and would be severely depressed if they were by themselves, and their intelligence. Rats are wayy smarter than your hamsters or guinea pigs.

i may not have rats i breed gerbils but i have had rats there so cute and very smart little things there loverly i mean how could u hate a thing that cute its sad i love them a go all u people u like them to

There are white people and there is white trash.  There are black people and there are *******.  There are Italians and there are wops, I'm not trying to offend anyone, I'm trying to make a point.  There are rats and there are demestic rats.  Do you get my point.  It's a stigma, a reputation.  My rats are cleaner, smarter, and nicer than any cat or dog.  This is a fact, not just because they are my rats.  Look it up online and you'll see what I'm talking about.  If you don't like an animal, don't get one, but don't diss the people raising them or diss the animal until you educate yourself.  Thanks for reading and again, in no way was I trying to upset anybody, I just wanted people to see the difference and why.

i agree completely!!!!! I would probably have a rat if my mom and dad liked them but they seem to be the people who don't really love allot of breeds of rodents especially ones with long hairless tails but they're not completely rude about it! i know that some times they say that they're completely disgusting animals but when i move out and have rats they wont mind looking at them inside their cage but they would both HATE them being out of their cage and my mom would run out of the house screaming!but i guess the point is i like rats and would NEVER diss them!....my parents on the other hand well i don't know about that!?!?! LOL!!!

YES!!! I HATE when people do that! So now when I ask a ? in here about my rats, I have to say , " and for all you complete and utter idiots that think rats are gross, dirty, and need to be killed, leave now and go fall, not jump, into a ditch!"

Oh I'm waaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of you. After all the good things about rats hit me, I wanted a rat sooo bad! Even though they have these stereo types, SO WHAT?! They don't bite, and that makes me happy! I've never thought that they could learn all those tricks, including their own name! Thanks to all of you who supported rats that got me into them!!!

btw, i've heard millions of rat haters opinions. they disgust me...

i had a pet rat- pepe and she was great, this was when i was a lot younger though (about 13)and im quite upset my mom n dad wouldnt allow me a friend for her.

but she was very clever and i loved her.i was never bit. she died from a lump on her leg, she had an operation to remove it but died a few weeks after coming home :(

i now have snakes, and they are a lot cleverer than you'd think. (im 20 now)

i love pet rats :) they are incredibly cute and funny. i see sewer rats as totally different animals, even though im sure they can be just as cute, cause they are a lot bigger in size. it really annoys me when people say eeeee i hate their tails when they have probably never even seen a pet rat in their life. so they dont care about the rats teeth that could potentially bite their finger off no problem (this is extremely unlikely but still, they are capable of it if they really wanted to)

yea mice are good pets.

quiet, entertaining.

i got a buddy that has like well over 80 field mice(we caught 20) in a 200 gal fish tank(it has like 4 levels of plywood so they are not on top of each other)

they are in a room with concrete walls and a steel door(w a buzzer when it is open)

he lets his kids play with the mice all the time

but ultimately he has 3 snakes in the room in tanks also.

I so want some pet rats.  They are soo cute.  And they are smarter than other small furry creatures that are more popular as pets.

h**l yeah! i have guinea pigs too and even though they whine and make other vocal sounds, my rats still do a better job of expressing themselves with just their eyes. don't put wild rats down though. they are just as sweet and friendly. i have wild mice and i had a wild rat. they are more hyper and streamlined, but also smarter than domesticated ones. don't put them down saying they have diseases because you are still feeding into propaganda. many people have wildies as pets when you rescue them as babies. usually they may have fleas or ticks but once that is out of the way, they are wonderful pets. rats, both wild and domestic are wonderful animals!

Point out that it was HUMAN fault that caused rats to carry the plague. If people had not littered the streets with garbage & f***s, there would have been no diseased mites & fleas for the rats to carry while they were being drawn to the temptation of the garbage buffet.

Rats (even sewer rats) are very clean animals. Let us not forget who made sewers...

I agree. People who take the time out to diss rats on this site seriously need to get a hobby.

TBH, I think rats are better pets than cats or dogs. And I've owned all three.

Yes, it does irk me when I see people with stupid answers to rat questions like "EW!" or "Set the cat on them." but I've gotten used to it. I've just started to laugh at those people for their own ignorance and stupidity. I have 5 rats right now, and they're the best small animal I've ever had. People let their prejudices prevent them from having one of the best companion animals there are, and that's THEIR problem. We know we're the lucky ones. :)

I've been owned by various pet rats for over 10 years and think they are very beautiful and intelligent animals.  I gave up a loooong time ago trying to convert ignorant people and just smile and nod now when I hear people dissing these special creatures :o)

Though I do have to butt in when someone is misinformed about the husbandry of rats.  What really annoys me the most is when people say things like : Oh, I've read up all about rats and sooooo want one !!!!   NNNNOOOOOOOO !!!!! It is so so very wrong to keep them living alone (though there are very occasionally exceptions)

I have 13 pet rats currently and all of them (except for maybe one, no offense ladybug! ;) are smarter than my hamsters, ferrets, rabbit, and previous guinea pigs.

They're just ignorant, and i try to ignore it.

Yes i have 6 rats at the moment, and had 5 in the past.Only 1 nipped me but he had not been handled and was blind so the smell of people scared him. I find that they never keep me awake at night unlike the hamsters and love human and animal attention. They are not scared of the dogs and cats either. they are the perfect pet. And i love the saying, If you want a dog but don't have the space - get a rat. its so true. Except i have the space for the dogs, but the rats don't mind sharing.

They are highly intelligent and learn new tricks all the tome.

I hate people talking bad about rats. I totally adore them! I have some as pets currently. And I like wild rats to. Domestic or not they are basically the same. Just one has a little more edge. I love both wild and not rats!! People really need facts instead of fiction about an animal. And people need to stop making horror movies, i guess you could say, about animals. causing fear of them to everyone. bashing rats is kinda like saying that pit bulls are dreadful aggressive dogs and should be wiped off the planet. if you do research then you learn the truth about the animal. after i did research and had some acquaintances with them i learned that pit bulls are highly sweet and affectionate and are great dogs, and get the bad rep from the BAD OWNERS!
