Just curious to see when your's started walking on their own. My son will be a year in a couple weeks and has always been in the 90-95 percentile for height and head. He loves to cruise and walk w/ help, but I feel as though he's going to have a hard time balancing due to his figure. He just started crawling a few weeks ago, but will only do it if he has to (short distances) and would definitely much rather walk. Has anyone had a similar situation?

  1. don't compare your child -he's perfect and will mature on his own when HE'S ready.

  2. My daughter is always in the 95 percentile for head size.  She is on the taller end (60 or 70 percentile)  and her weight is generally about average (40 to 60 percent)  She started walking at 9 months and starting crawling at 18 months.  Her balance has always been very good.

  3. My son is 10 1/2 months: head has always been in the 90th, height 75th, and weight 50th.... he started taking steps a week ago! I feel as though he's still able to balance well despite his rather large noggin :-)

  4. All my kids have macrocephaly (big heads).  There are 5 causes for this one is just genetics (in your case), the number 1 reason is autism.  Mine are big because they are autistic, 2 confirmed, the youngest actually doesn't quite qualify as macrocephaly because his head is only 90th%tile, weight 25th, height, 75th.  (also autistic children tend to be of short stature, less than 50th%tile)

My 2 autistic spectrum children are gorgeous as autistic children tend to be and have gi-normous heads.  My 34 month old son is 110th%tile for head size, has been as low as 95th, height is 25-50, and weight is 75th, and my oldest is at 100 for his head and has always been there, height is 50th, weight 10th-25th%tile.

They did walk at 13 and a half, 14 and a half and 15 months.

  5. i wouldnt worry. i dont think he will have a problem.

my son was always in the 90 percentile for head, height and weight when he was younger.

he started crawling at about 10 months, and was walking by himself by the time he was about a year and a half. every child is different, and reaches different milestones at different time. you really cant compare you child to another.
