  1. I guess it can hurt, but really all I felt was the preaure of them working in my mouth. Wasn't bad.

  2. i didnt get root canal, but i did get a tooth pulled.....they give you so much numming stuff, you dont feel anything for like 2 hours after.

  3. Is it fun? NO.... however, the last one I had was not too bad. It think the first one was, because I waited so long that there was an infection. But we did this last one before there was an emergency and a lot of pain, just a lot of pain with change in temp. So don't stress too much... there is lots of good drugs to use now a days. Ask for gas... that helps A LOT.... Good luck to you!

  4. it only hurts when you get the bill

  5. I got one and had a really bad experience.  First I was allergic to the penicillin, then they didn't "pack" it correctly so I had to go back and have it re-done.  It was so traumatic, I'd rather have a tooth pulled then getting another root canal.

  6. I had some pain after the procedure. My gum was sore. But it is not nearly as painful as all the hype would have you believe. It didn't hurt nearly as much as the tooth ache.

  7. i'm actually terrified of dentists.  but i've had 3 root canals done and none of them hurt.  everyone told me it would be horrible though.

I'm more scared of the noise the drill makes.  The only thing you feel is pressure.  And it's not intense pain once the numbness goes away.  It's just a little sore :)

  8. It didn't bother me at all, but I am tough.

If you do feel any pain, let the dentist know and he/she should give you more Novocain.

They numb you up and you do not feel it, of course.

Afterwords, you may have some discomfort. I suggest you ask the dentist if he can give you something for the pain afterwords, like codeine.

  9. I had to have it temporally filled to deaden the nerve because it was live and hurt like h**l.

After a couple of weeks I had the temporary filling removed some  drilling down then  filled and it was fine . But it took well over a hour .

  10. I had one 17 years ago and it was one of the worst experiences of my life.  I had a second about a year and a half ago (was terrified) and I didn't feel much.  Not sure if its changes in dentistry, or a better dentist.  I suspect both.  They got some good novoacaine these days.

  11. I had two within the last year. I am afraid of needles so that created my anxiety...once I had the novicane I was fine, you don't feel a thing...usually takes two or three visits to clean the roots out completely then a few more visits to fit you for the crown...that stuff didn't hurt at all either. If you are not "fearful" of needles then you should not have anxiety at all...the needle by the way doesn't hurt either, it's just fear in my mind that created the anxiety.

  12. I had 5 of them last yr. and wow what pain it was so excruciating went on for months

  13. when i need work done  i  always  tell my dentist  doc  load me  up  so i don't feel no pain  till next  week  ask  for  extra  you   will feel  pressure  but  if  he  give  you  enough  you  should  not  feel  it

  14. nah they hurt like a *****.

But if you need it, then you have to get it.

  15. My uncle is about to get one and i hear that its a bit painful.

    it looks that way 2.

  16. i've got 2 root canals done, they didnt hurt. just make sure before the doc goes in your mouth, that your fully numb.   But i gotta be honest with you that you will be a lil sore  from the injection site, and from the rinse that they'll be using, to clean the canal.

  17. I have worked as an assistant for many general dentists, and the quality of the root canal treatment is directly correlated with the quality of the dentist administering it, Local anesthetic will due what it implies, locally "numb" the area administered if its an "infiltration", or if a "mandibular block" or "PDL" or "inter-osteo" they are all diff. methods of administering anest. due to different nerve intervation, which will also vary from person to person...the preference will vary from dentist to dentist as well, Either way, there is always a potential of feeling "something" that being due to the fact that the root canals in the tooth(anywhere from 1-4-rare cases) are being filed out, treated with certain chemicals such as EDTA, sodium hypochlorite, etc. and then filled with gutta percha, or some other root canal filler-composite, the risk is at the apex of the root tips which have live nerve endings and fresh blood flow, when this apex is "purked" by a endodontic file pain may or may not immediately result.( I have seen both cases)  with recent technology in the dental field and with new devices such as "RootZX apex locators, etc." these instances occur less and less. I would ask your general dentist how often he or she performs Root canals, and how comfortable they are..although most will already refer you to a specialist if they do not like doing them ( an Endodontist-general dentist that went to specialized schooling-usu. extra 2 years- for endodontics.i.e. root canals and such) they then usu. knock you out, and get it all done in about 1-2 hours, and you won't feel a thing. These are your options if you want to keep the tooth, if not, than the other alternative is an extraction-either simple or surgical-pending condition of tooth and remaining structure, etc. hope this helps. my 2 cents.
