  1. I have had birds (large and small) for many years...they go to bed at night, just like you! Honest! kjl

  2. What ever you do, do not get a parakeet! They chatter alot during the day.. Alot! If you don't cover them up at night, they will tweet and chatter alot and sometimes its loud. but not that loud.

  3. All of mine are quiet if you bid them goodnight, just like children, and cover them up in darkness.  It helps a lot if there's not noise going on (the TV, conversations, etc).  Treat them like kids going to bed.  Now and again you might hear a peep, but that's all.

(There are some exotics that can raise the hair on the back of your neck no matter what you do, but they're kept outside.)

  4. I have a pair of Canary's.  Out of all the breeds I've owned these are the quietest.  The males sing beautifully and are enjoyable.   I don't have to cover mine.  When I go to bed they are quiet till I'm up.

  5. A budgie or a cockatiel - definetly not a cockatoo - I have one and he's basically my wake up call every morning lol

  6. Cockatiels are not noisy at all.  They tweet every once in a while but that's it.

  7. You might find one is any species but there is no specific species that are quiet by nature.  If you are going to get a bird you should count on it being loud.  As it is in their nature to sign and call their flocks home and sing just for the sake of singing.

  8. All birds sleep at night just like you do. If they aren't sleeping you need to make the room darker.

Most birds area vocal to one level or another. Cockatiels tend to be quieter than most, especially females. Stay away from conures and bigger birds.

  9. We have a cockatiel.  During the day he can be chirpy and noisy, but at night we cover his cage and don't talk to him while his cover is on.  That way he knows it's "quiet time".  It works!  We've had him for nearly 10 years.
