Any pics/ideas for getting my hair curled?

I want something like the pic below but if you girls (or guys) have any better pics, feel free to show me.

I already have quite short hair, just past my ears but wanted something different for my holidays.

I figured a perm would be too permanent but I'm not too clued up about these things.

What would y'all suggest?

The models hair has been styled, maybe she has natural curl, or hot rollers have been used.  I personally can't stand perms - old ladies get them, and if you don't style your hair everyday they it can look awful . . . like a perm with no style!

If your hair is just past your ears, then it would become much shorter when curled.  Why don't you pop into a couple of hairdressers and ask their opinions - get more than one.
