  1. A 'crime scene investigator' is a detective in most cases and assigned to a specialized unit. Homicide, Narcotics/Vice, Burglary/Robbery to name a few.

This c**p you see on NCIS and all these other forensic detective shows are made to entertain the masses and don't reflect real police work/criminal investigations. A criminology degree can't hurt but by joining a police force you'd usually start out at a partol officer and work your way up the hierarchy.

As a forensic person you'll be doing labwork however you're never quite accepted into the close knit circle of the police world because you aren't one of them and done your time in the trenches.

  2. I thought you wanted to be the next top model with your size 8/10 and pics posted earlier.

You can't start as an entry level crime scene investigator.  You need to rise through the ranks and get experience in the police department...../

  3. This will help you for a S.O.C.O. post

If you actually want to be a detective, you'll have to join the police, do your two years probation then apply for CID.

Then again if you wanted to be a forensic scientist you'd need a science degree.

Your best bet with a criminology degree is the police.

  4. Most police constabularies have civilian and police SOCO's so you could be either, a police one you would need to do your probation first and then apply.

A civi one you just apply, a degree would then help you with the application process. If you got in then you would get sent away for basic training then be chaperoned and constantly trained as you went through your career.
