Any police officers or former police officers?

I got rear ended today and the other driver fled but I got the license plate number. I have called and notified the police. How long can I eexpect to wait before the police can catch this guy? A couple hours? Can the police just find out their address and go to their house and confront them? I really want this guy caught (my car is new.)

Report it to your car insurance right away. I'm sure the police are checking into the license plate, just hope it wasn't a stolen car,
