Mm..I have a performance coming up, and I need a pretty, slow violin solo piece that's a bit lengthy and preferably a little on the advanced side. Any suggestions? =]

  1. "Meditation from Thais" composed by Massanet is a good piece for a violin solo. It is a couple of minutes, and requires advanced technique and interpretation.

  2. The Schindler's List theme song.

I don't know any technicalities about it, as I don't play the violin, but if you can nail that piece in front of an audience people will cry.

  3. Depends on how difficult.

Flipping through my Violin Syllabus I see Bach Partita no. 3 in E Major, the Gavotte en rondeau section. You can play it at a medium or slowish speed, and it isn't very difficult to learn. I have to play this at my exam this Tuesday .. but I only started practicing last month :P. I've memorized it and get the right notes, all it really takes is practice.

It is a bit lengthy and has many different themes that are really nice. It's a little on the faster side though...

You could always go for Nearer My God To Thee, always is great for performances. If you've seen titanic, when the ship is sinking the quartet plays that song:

I play it a little slower when I perform so that it sounds a little more..soft and mellow. It's one of my faves to play :) Its simple in the original octave but I play it twice, once in the original octave and then the next an octave above. It's a little tricky intonation wise up there, but it sounds REALLY nice.

    Hope that helps
