ok wel i got a 7'4'' board back in june and my cousin taught me to surf (if u can call it surfing) and since then i have taken any chance i get to go out into the waves (unfortunately i live like 200 miles from the nearest beach)

anyway i can catch waves and stand up and my balance when standing is alright, but i just cant stand up quick enough!! i keep hesitating because i lose balance just as i catch the wave and i have to stop to think about what i'm doing. by then the wave has lost all it's power :( is there like a special super fast technique or something for standing up that no one will tell me?

oh and as well as that i can never paddle fast enough to catch some waves its really annoying :( help??

  1. I'm definitely not a "pro" surfer, but living in San Diego and surfing about 3-5 days a week, I guess I can answer your question...

There is no special technique to get up on the board quicker or paddle faster, just lay out on the board on your belly and freestyle stroke, the grab the board with both hands and almost like a push up, just up on the board and just ride. To help with your feet sticking, use s*x Wax. Also, your using a longboard which I thought was harder for me to learn on. I switched to a shortboard which although its a little harder to control, its easier to get up and actually control the board with your body. Since I learned on that, I can do some really good carving on the waves and riding longboard is kinda boring to me now. Anyways, good luck!

  2. I didnt read the guys answer above me

but i am just a beginner aswell

but my dad was a somewhat of a pro surfer

    including my mum

we live in australia on the gold coast best surf in aus!!

    lucky me

    anywho

my dad says to get mis palmers surf wax

and to use the snap up technique

and that maybe your using the rong foot

run and pretend your going to slide/skid on the surface

and see wich foot you put back

    watch blue crush

in america it might be called surfer girls

they teach ppl to surf on the movie(my advice lol)

have fun i hope it works

  3. You can try paddlling with your body closer to the front of board when trying to catch a wave. This usally brings the nose down further by weight. A longer board can usally catch waves easier. Especially if the waves are slow and mushy. As far as standing up, practice is all you can do, there is no easy fix for that. You push up with both hands on the edge of board and bring your feet in and legs up in one swift motion.

  4. i certainly dont suck but not quite pro surf 3-5days and i can rip off killer tricks, but u need to stand up in one smooth motion don't know what else to tell u i haven't seen  u try top surf but u should ask the other surfers to help. :)
