Any problems answering questions about Puerto Rico without getting political?

It`s difficult sometimes for me to answer questions about the island without getting political on certain issues. I wonder if others answering questions about the United States get political also with some of their answers, or if this happens with other countries also.

  1. Most bopricuas does not mind that, as we say "politics is our #1 sport".

But yes, it can be done.  I have answer many questions here without getting into politics.

  2. I love PR; the people, the land, the beaches and mountains and also the politics. That's how integrated Puerto Rican issues are.   No need to bring a novel when you visit.  All the drama, intrigue, romance one needs is in the newspapers, on theTV and lips of the people.  It is part of the Puerto Rican soul.  Accept it or leave it, I guess...

  3. PR its all about politics. when u go everywhere there is always a positive or negative comment about politics. I think that part of our culture is made up of politics, if we didnt have politics, we wont have history. all that composes PR, all that surrounds us, all that we are: POLITICS. albizu campo, luis munoz marin, luis ferrer, el crito de lares, estado libre asociado, rossello, ojeda, sila ect. they are role models of our political history (good or bad) its part of us puerto ricans.

other countries do focus on politics but either in a more passive way like the US. or with violence like el salvador. but its not bad to mention politics, its just that for some people its not really their preference, it all depends on ur interest, and if politics it is, then go ahead and express urself with it.

  4. Part of the problem, with PR in particular, is that a lot of people are bombarded by all this political drama and BS in the media. Quite frankly I'm glad I don't have to live there anymore, it can be too much! My mom will sometimes hold the phone up to the phone when I call her... and I tell her ENOUGH! Nothing but a bunch of politicos arguing and bickering and name calling. As a result, everyone has a position, everyone has an opinion... and very few people can actually focus on anything other then some underlying political issue or agenda.

What usually only happens in the US every 4 years happens everday in PR. There's more to life than focusing on politics all the time. This coming from someone who studied Poli Sci in college. In PR it's WAY overdone. Sorry to say this but you're a product of your environment dude, but only to a certain extent.... YOU have the choice to not get too political, focus on the question and not the politics behind the question. It can be done.

And by the way, yes, it happens in other countries too.

  5. I guess when You defend  Your  beliefs  You're Not getting Political...:)

  6. If the question is not political, why get political?

The key is to be a good listener, and in this forum a reader who pays attention.

If I post a question: I'm 28 and planning a vacation to PR with some friends in September, what should I know about PR, any suggestions?

I would be turned off if your answer contained any political rhetoric because I did not ask for information or opinions about politics.

  7. Is about time to deal with the status dilemma  for real. Unless we want to keep circling around this while everthing around deteriorates for 500 more years.

  8. And the sad things is, we dont know jack s**+te about politics:p
