  1. I'm with Amy S... I'm not a Marine but I'm a proud girlfriend of a Marine and he loves being a Marine.

  2. I am a poolie, I passed the ASVAB and physical/medical exams at San Jose MEPS just yesterday.

I am shipping Sept. 15th to basic training.

I will be a Marine and be proud to be a Marine.

Serving my country is an honorable ideal, but to be honest, I have been getting in shape for three years, I am 28 years old, I can do 9-11 pull-ups before my arms go dead, around 100-120 crunches in 2 minutes and run a mile in 8-9 minutes.

The 17-22 year old young men at MEPS gave my old *** some love for doing this now and I even helped a couple there. For instance, a young kid was sleeping at MEPS ( a no,no) when they called him in for his interview with his service liaison. If they call you in for something and they can't find you or you are just outside the door and oblivious or sleeping, you might find your *** unprocessed and having to go through the MEPS bullshit all over again the next day.

I need challenge, I need structure, I need change. I will be a Marine. For now, I am a POS poolie, but I will get on that bus on shipping day and be cut down like every other recruit until I graduate as Private.

I joined for camaraderie, adventure, challenge, physical fitness, confidence, pride, and a steady paycheck. If you are young, I say you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by enlisting.

  3. I'm a proud Marine Mom... does that count??

  4. i joined marines, because the rebels kills my relatives in mindanao,, my felling? i want to kill all of MILF rebels.

  5. Are you kidding? Almost all Marines are proud. We know we earned a title. It's much different from being in any other branch of service.

  6. You bet.

    Why I joined?

I had originally signed up for 6 yr Navy Nuke program.  While in DEP, I had an epiphany:  I didn't want to even come close to the possibility of being on a Sub or in the bowels of a ship tending a reactor.

My father was an Army 1st Sgt that served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam.  His life and hence career was saved by Chesty Puller at the Chosin Res debacle. My step dad was a Swabbie and my grandfather was a Marine as was his father... My other grandfather built submarines during WW2.

I loved planes...  I decided to carry on as a Marine in the Air Wing.

Boot was a *itch but I made it.  Dec 17th, 2008 will be 30 yrs since I stood on the Yellow Footprints - that change was forever.

I have friends that served in Korea, Vietnam, DS, Grenada, Panama, Beirut, and some from the current Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.  Some are Marines but all all great men and women that chose to serve their country rather than stay and let someone else take their duty.

    USMC    78 - 82

    NMANG 83

    USAF     83 - 92

  7. I joined because I wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. I had a successsful career, but I didn't really enjoy it that much, which is why I got out. But I am proud of what I did. I learned my limits, I became stronger, mentally and physically. I learned some good skills that helped me get a good job once I got out.

    To quote Pres. Ronald Reagan:

"Some people go their whole lives wondering if they made a difference......Marines don't have that problem"
