I need to find a REASONABLE priced hotel in Rio from December 26 thru January 1. At the popular websites the rates are ridiculuos, and was wondering if anyone could help me out, with a specific hotel, or agent, or something. PLEASE ADVICE!!!!!!!!!

  1. I liked the Ferreira Viana at #58 on the street of the same name, a 2-star hotel in the Flamengo district.  There's a 4-star across the way; a Metro entrance is at one end of the block, a big oceanside park is at the other.

They showed me two single rooms on the second floor up.  One looked out on a ventilation shaft, the other faced the Imperial Museum.  (Good luck!)  The quarters were tiny but modern.  A nice fruity breakfast was included; service 'til 9 a.m.

English is spoken at the reception desk.  Tel. (21) 2205-7396.  I paid about US$25/night in the off-season (July).

Flamengo, home of a perennial contender in the Rio state football league, is a nice part of town ... but not TOO nice for your purposes.  If you go, have a beer for Plimothy at Carlito's (as in Charlie Chaplin), a "Portuguese-style" corner bar a couple of blocks past the Imperial Museum, on the other side of the avenue.

P.S. RE: THE BREAKFAST SERVICE ... You just have to get to the "dining room" (it's more like the end of a hallway) by 9; it doesn't stop at 9.

  2. Sometimes what is reasonable for you is not for someone else. Reasonable is hard to measure.

In the New Year's Eve the city gets crowded, so do the hotels.

I don't know how old are you, and what kind of stuff you like to do, so is hard to say what kind of accommodation would fit you best, but take a look in the link below.

Some of the hostels located in Ipanema are very nice.

    Have a nice trip!
