Hello. I want to buy a camcorder but find the vast selection available a bit overwhelming. Has anyone bought or used one they would reccomend? I want an inexpensive one, say 300-400 euro and I will be using it for more artistic endeavours (make own films etc) rather than holiday/family stuff.

  1. I think the Canon Vixia HV30 has good reveiws, in Euros I think it is around maybe 400+.

I don't own one so that's not a personal recommendation. Sometimes I check CNET.com or amazon.com and look at editor's picks and users ratings to get an idea. It also allows you to shop by price.

I would recommend that you determine what format you want first. (record to tape, dvd, hard drive etc.) I would personally go for something other than tape although those are least expensive.  I think you would have more flexibility for editing and for sharing.

Here is CNET's link: http://reviews.cnet.com/camcorders/ if you want to see what they say.

  2. go for sony. starts from very cheap to very expensive range. you could probably get a minidv one.

  3. Hi I have just got this one

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-HDC-SD...

and all the reviews CNET and Amazon are good and it is very easy to use and the picture quality is excellent.

It came with a 4GB SD card and I got an 8GB from Amazon for £15 too. The price is excellent for the camera but there are 2 issues.

First the Software issue....It comes with HD writer (free) which allows you to join clips and write to blue ray or DVD and a Trial version of STUDIO 11. You can get it for about £35 on the net. I tried it but did not like it anything like as much as Cyberlink Power Director 7 (approx £45 to download). PD 7 is excellent even though I have a real problem Downloading it with broken links etc Cyberlink did eventually come through.

Second issue....spare batteries are hard to find....Panasonic demand £88 although I got one at Jessops for £60. That said the battery lasts about an hour.

  4. Sony

  5. You could have a look at http://www.epathchina.com/digital-camcor... maybe you could find one you need...
